U.S. Catholic Bishops Say There Will Be 'No National Policy' on Denying Communion to Pro-Abortion Politicians

Members of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are trying to clarify their position and deal with the confusion caused by their announcement last week that they would create a teaching document on the Holy Eucharist or the meaning of Communion. The statement caused many to speculate that the church was looking to deny President Joe Biden and other pro-abortion Catholic politicians from receiving Communion.

The speculation was misplaced, said the bishops.

“There will be no national policy on withholding Communion from politicians,” the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said in a Q&A document dated June 21.

“The intent is to present a clear understanding of the Church’s teachings to bring heightened awareness among the faithful of how the Eucharist can transform our lives and bring us closer to our creator and the life he wants for us,” the document continued.

The bishops say the document being drafted is “not meant to be disciplinary in nature, nor is it targeted at any one individual or class of persons.” But it would spell out “the responsibility of every Catholic” to live in accordance with the church’s teachings.

The Hill:

The committee vote last week triggered debate within the church over whether Biden and other politicians should be denied the right to participate in communion based on their stance on abortion.

Jayd Henricks, a former top lay official with the bishops conference, told The Washington Post on Friday that though Biden’s election set in motion the document’s creation, bishops have a larger concern about Catholics not understanding communion.

He clarified that the use of the words “national policy” was about “giving guidance on a national level,” The Post reported.

So they are unsure of communion requirements, but absolutely certain of global warming and border policies.

Interesting, and very effective comparison of their moral and morale (democrat-supporting, massed media supporting positions.

But, after all, Biden-Harris-Pelosi want more (Central American-South American Mexican) supposedly Catholic illegal aliens!

“U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said...”

No one is listening, no one cares, and no one is influenced by the phony leaders in the USCC.

Judas was punished for his crime of delivering an innocent Man to a corrupt courtroom. The losers in the USCC might investigate what happened to Judas, since it might happen to them.

Any Catholic Bishop who went along with this refusal to deny communion should be defrocked.

There is no one with the guts of Saint Thomas More among the lot of them, including Pope Francis. Nobody has the gumpshun to counter Joe Biden in his hypocritical stance on the tenets of the Catholic Church, and so, by example, he leads this country and others to believe it is okay to slaughter the little ones if you go to church and put on a big show. Pope Francis, if he was a man of God would issue Biden this warning, either knock off supporting abortion or you will be excommunicated, and then follow through. Somehow, this evil slaughtering of innocents must be brought to a halt.

Every bishop, archbishop and cardinal in these United States should be speaking up on this issue. Fr. James Altman said it best when he implied that they are politically afraid. They should be telling their flock that voting democrat is doing something wrong as long as abortion is a plank in their platform. Pope Francis should get some guts and advise them this way. I cannot remember when I have seeb a man with less intestinal fortitude than Pope Francis.

Finally we have before us a very public moment of clarity for U.S. bishops.

Those bishops who have faith in and love for Christ will have no moral choice except to exhibit firmness in reverencing and protecting Our Beloved Savior, present in the Eucharist, and those bishops who are faithless wolves in shepherds’ clothing will put politics and their own sorry hides before Christ.

God, Bless us all and give us strength and grace to do Your Holy Will even in our most difficult and dark moments.

That is correct. The most the USCCB could do is some sort of recommendation or finding. They have no authority to enact some sort of binding policy for the whole country. They actually have no authority at all except for a few cases, mostly involving liturgical translations.

According to canon law, the minister of communion -- not the bishop -- is responsible for denying communion to persons engaged in manifest public grave sin.
