Weakland said he began having homosexual relationships after his episcopal consecration, and he dissented from the Church’s teaching on the immorality of sodomy.

And here's what Bergoglio's homo-Jesuit buddy, James Martin, S.J. has to say:

Martin stresses only that Weakland had paid a man he had homosexual relations with, not that Weakland was a practicing, active homosexual.

Fun fact: Weakland was Archbishop of Milwaukee during Jeffrey Dahmer’s most productive period.

A truly Jesuitical observation.

I wonder if the Windy City Gay Chorus will sing at Weakland’s funeral Mass, like it did at Cardinal Bernadin’s Mass.

They’re only 92 miles away; I’m sure Cupcake Cupich would pay their round-trip bus fare.

Homosexuals, like any sinner, can repent of their sin and be forgiven. Where sin abounds, grace much more.

The apostle Paul describes certain qualities that a Bishop should have:
“A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;” - 1 Tim 3:2

The point is that Cardinals, Bishops and Priests need to be held to a higher standard if they are to serve in their role.

The Church has the authority and responsibility to defrock a religious for certain behavior. One would think that practicing fornication or sodomy would result in automatic defrocking.

Why wasn't Weakland defrocked?

Can this be one of those “death comes in threes” things? It’s time for some other bad church leaders to get ready…

In the end, this is what sank him publicly: “The sexual misconduct involved a homosexual relationship the archbishop had with a young male graduate student in 1979. The financial misconduct involved the hush-money payment of $450,000 in archdiocesan funds to the man in 1998, after he claimed through a lawyer that he was a victim of “sexual abuse” at the hands of Archbishop Weakland.”

When lay people realized they’d been robbed of $450K to pay for his flings, his public image was ruined.

Imagine trying to raise money for the Church after that?
