OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

When I first came here, out of curiosity I went over on that Evolution/Creation thread. I was attacked six ways to Sunday, for being a Jew, who reads and believes the Torah and the Writings, attacked for being a Christian who believes in Christ and the New Testament, just attacked period. I held my own with Physicist though and as he is most intelligent, all in all I learned something and I had a good time. If I had hit the abuse button forty times, I have a feeling you would say "Why did you go over there? What did you expect?" So the onus is on the individual to know what he's getting into and if he bites off more than he can chew, to deal with it like an adult, to grow up. Get educated and then come back and try again.

It's not persecution to discuss and challenge deeply held beliefs.

That's not what happens oftentimes, and I'm betting is not what JR is talking about. I think it's more along the lines of going onto a thread having nothing to do with a certain topic, and then calling someone a pedophile because they're a Catholic (or an anti-black racist if they're a Mormon, or whatever) like I was called earlier today. That's blatant slander of the worst kind, it's not "challenging deeply held beliefs."

The moderators are the ones with the bias.

I've been critical of the moderators in the past but to be fair, they're pretty evenhanded. Maybe it just depends on what moderator is getting which posts, but I've had posts I've complained about pulled, I've had some get warnings, and some which were ignored.

For a while there was alot of Catholic bashing. Why was that allowed? I didn't see the Catholics hitting the abuse button, or the threads being pulled?

Actually, some of them did when they were getting absolutely and insanely out of control.

No, more like calling the Pope a "faggot" or a "drooling moron" and referring to Catholics as pedophiles, like I was called earlier today.

If you go back and read the political debates, say in the 1700s, you'll see a huge degree of incivility in those debates. And the Founding Fathers protected that "bashing" as free speech.

This isn't a government run public site and it's not your private property, so the whole "free speech" argument doesn't fly. It's like hiding behind the 2nd Amendment if I tell you to check your gun before entering my house.

If I can add my 2 cents here, I think there's a difference between the persecution of being trashed on a personal level and the "persecution" of being asked to stop trashing others. I won't turn this into a theological debate but why is it that it's primarily only posts of the hardcore (in terms of sharing and spreading their beliefs) Protestants on FR that are trashing of others? There something going on at a fundamental level there.

Was your church friendly at the Council of Trent, or when they burned heretics..or do you think they defended the their doctrine?

WHy do you have to start in with this crap? This is what I mean, man. There's a certain attitude with some of the Protestants, specifically the Calvinists, that they own this board or something and have carte blanche to say whatever the hell they please to anyone. It needs to stop.

To add another few cents Jim, I don't think there should be limits on pressing abuse (unless say, there's someone clearly just hitting it non-stop for kicks). If someone is a moderator, that puts them in a special position of authority and expertise on the forum's rules, and thus it should be contingent on them, not the person pressing abuse, to determine when something is truly abuse. IOW, the current system works fine.
