Good story. It's hard to believe that plane didn't kill any US sailors. Those anti-aircraft gun positions were packed full of folks. I guess that illustrates that even though the kamikazes struck fear in our fleet, it wasn't a very effective military tactic. Like Patton said the idea is to make the other sob die for his country, not vice versa.

1961 Alan Shepard becomes 1st American in space (aboard Freedom 7) Launching of the Mercury-Redstone 3 (MR-3) spacecraft, the U.S. first manned space flight, from Cape Canaveral on a suborbital mission.
Crew members of the U.S. Navy Carrier Champlain cheer and take pictures of the arrival of the first Project Mercury pilot to fly a suborbital flight, Astronaut Alan B. Shepard, Jr.

Oh sure. The guys get the close-up. That's okay. I think I can see that soldier's mind from here. :-)ROFL. I somehow knew you were gonna say that. I wondered about posting miss Ireland at a smaller size. I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Morning CT. When I visited the USS MISSOURI. The dent in the armored belt is still visible. That's where I first heard the story about the Burial at sea story about the pilot.

Sorry, grousing about the hired help on my end, they stand there and watch while stuff kills, crushes, runs you down, or eats you...
And then critique your style of end.
