My area regained power roughly around 11 o'clock/ 2300 hours last night.
Since I was already boiling by skin off while trying to sleep, I didn't get online.

Haven't been online in roughly two days due to one mishap or another, actually.

But, heard that Newburgh had regained power sometime near 7 o'clock/ 1900 hours.
The only other NY'er that I am aware of that might have been effected would be Neets.
Speaking of whom- Neets, what were thy experiences yesterday?

The fools!!
That'll explode things due to power overload!

Supposedly, lightning hit the Niagra power station and took down the grid.
I believe that like I believe I am Santa Clause.
Last weather radar I saw RIGHT BEFORE the power went out was teh northeast corridor, and there wasn't anything near Niagra at all.

Welcome.
Don't like people to get too worried about me.
It's not like the local cow population near me was going to go mad in the heat and go on a looting spree..
;-)
*chuckle*
Yes, Cow Country New York is the area I live in.
For about three hours after the power went out, the transformers on the main lines here were humming like they were about to blow. (Got to see such an event last year, twice in a row. Once by itself, second time right after they'd fixed it.)
Sounded like an overload of massive proportions was going through the lines.
Caught that Chretien said three different things about what caused it.
I only heard the line about lightning strike. (The non-existent lightning strike..)
*ugh!*

Well, I wasn't too worried as I figure most foxhole freepers are pretty good about taking care of themselves but it never hurts (I hope) to check.

It's not like the local cow population near me was going to go mad in the heat and go on a looting spree.. ;-) *chuckle*

Oh no, cows with guns? LOL!

"Allied intelligence had established that the Japanese had no more than 2500 aircraft of which they guessed 300 would be deployed in suicide attacks. In August 1945, however; unknown to Allied Intelligence, the Japanese still had 5,651 army and 7,074 navy aircraft, for a total of 12,725 planes of all types. "

This is the first time I have read that.

Hi Darksheare! Glad you made it back.

I see your coffee is still the talk of the Foxhole. You're a legend in your own time.

I've seen so many numbers on the availability of aircraft it's hard to know which ones are true.

However, the Germans actually increased production of planes and tanks in the last year of the war despite Allied bombing. They just couldn't get them to the units(transportation system was wrecked) and didn't have fuel for the vehicles and aircraft they did get to the units.

I figure the Japanese were in a worse postion being an island nation and depending on sea transport(most of which was on the bottom of the ocean by this point in the war) but the possibility of them hoarding waht they could for the "Final Battle" is highly possible.

I didn't do it!!
Oh.
Ohio.
Heh,heh.. okers.

The only reason my coffee is legend here in the foxhole is that some have attempted to try it.
'Course, no-one believes me about the fact that it doesn't effect me...
No, I do not know why.

Cows with guns

<===Mash This

Fat and docile, big and dumb
They look so stupid, they aren't much fun
Cows aren't fun

They eat to grow, grow to die
Die to be et at the hamburger fry
Cows well done

Nobody thunk it, nobody knew
No one imagined the great cow guru
Cows are one

He hid in the forest, read books with great zeal
He loved Che Guevera, a revolutionary veal
Cow Tse Tongue

He spoke about justice, but nobody stirred
He felt like an outcast, alone in the herd
Cow doldrums

He mooed we must fight, escape or we'll die
Cows gathered around, cause the steaks were so high
Bad cow pun

But then he was captured, stuffed into a crate
Loaded onto a truck, where he rode to his fate
Cows are bummed

He was a scrawny calf, who looked rather woozy
No one suspected he was packing an Uzi
Cows with guns

They came with a needle to stick in his thigh
He kicked for the groin, he pissed in their eye
Cow well hung

Knocked over a tractor and ran for the door
Six gallons of gas flowed out on the floor
Run cows run!

He picked up a bullhorn and jumped up on the hay
We are free roving bovines, we run free today

We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns

They crashed the gate in a great stampede
Tipped over a milk truck, torched all the feed
Cows have fun

Sixty police cars were piled in a heap
Covered in cow pies, covered up deep
Much cow dung

Black smoke rising, darkening the day
Twelve burning McDonalds, have it your way

We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns

The President said "enough is enough

These uppity cattle, its time to get tough"
Cow dung flung

The newspapers gloated, folks sighed with relief
Tomorrow at noon, they would all be ground beef
Cows on buns

The cows were surrounded, they waited and prayed
They mooed their last moos,
they chewed their last hay
Cows out gunned

The order was given to turn cows to whoppers
Enforced by the might of ten thousand coppers
But on the horizon surrounding the shoppers
Came the deafening roar of chickens in choppers

We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns

Dana Lyons

Hello, Sam!

Papa Mike was a bosun's mate and would likely have piloted a landing craft to the beaches if this had ever happened. I can't imagine my life without my wife and kids - who might not have existed had this operation gone off.

Great thread. Thanks for all the extra effort!

You're Welcome Colonel Flagg.

I wonder how many people even know that we had planned an invasion of Japan.

Hey SNIPPY! We really never invaded the home islands of Japan! Hiroshima, and Nagasaki settled that issue.

America's nuclear weapons - made in the USA and tested in Japan. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
