Python swallows Bangladeshi tribal woman (Monty had nothing to do with it)

RANGAMATI, Bangladesh (Reuters) - A python has swallowed a tribal women in Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong Hill Tracts, police say.

The python was later killed and the body of the woman was retrieved in Baghaichhari forest near Rangamati 350 km (219 miles) from the capital Dhaka, a police officer said on Friday.

The victim Basanti Tripura, 38 was taken off guard by the massive python which swallowed her slowly. A loud cry by her companion, also a woman, could not deter the python.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the two women went to the forest to collect fruits.

In a special to Reuters, the woman said she would not be granting interviews except to Bob Woodward of The Washington Post who specializes in making people talk.

Mr. Woodward has had exclusive interviews with the CIA's Bill Casey, General Franco, Marshal Tito, JFK and Alan Greenspan after other reporters had given up.

Upon being contacted, Mr. Woodward expressed gratification, exclaiming this will be the second in his "Deep Throat" series of deathbed confessions.

A college friend from a remote part of Nigeria told me that one test of manhood in his village was to lay back from a python's burrow while hiding your eyes, and wiggle your foot at the entrance like it was a small animal. The idea was to let the python swallow your leg up to the crotch before killing it.
