Kroger Check Writing Policy (Vanity)
Self | May 22, 2004 | SLb

Posted on 05/22/2004 6:36:10 PM PDT by SLB

I just made a quick trip to one of the local Kroger stores, chicken was on sale this week and we wanted to get a couple of bags of boneless/skinless. When I got to the checkout isle, I use the self checkout whenever possible, I wrote my check for $25.00 over the purchase price.

The clerk ran the check through the machine and then looked at me and said something like; "I am sorry, but there has already been a check for $25.00 over written on this account within the past week and you are limited to $25.00 a week which is the maximum allowed." (Mrs SLB had written a check at another store earlier in the week) She then showed me the register slip with my bank account number and the limits on my account. I am limited to spending $300.00 a week at Kroger.

I asked her why and she said it was a new Kroger wide policy. I did not berate her, she is on the bottom of the food chain, but asked for a cusotmer comment form which she gladly gave me. I will fill it out and send it to Kroger.

We do not do anywhere near all of our shopping at Kroger as we have the commissary at Ft Knox (average savings is in the 30% range), we also have Save-a-Lot, Aldi's, and of course the infamous Wally World. We usually only go to Kroger for sale items, but this tracking of my purchases and limiting me is going to send me even further from them. My only planned trips there now are for gasoline as they give a $0.03 a gallon discount with their card, but I am certain they track that, too bad the name, address and phone number on the card are all made up.

Am I the only person left in the dark ages here?

Ummm, yes! :-) OK, as long as you have the check out and completely filled in by the time they announce the total, which you scrawl quickly, AND you don't decide to take that moment to balance your account while you're just standing there taking up space, then you're forgiven. Sorry, any minute or two out of my life is usually time away from my kids. I don't care how old you are, you lose.

The point is, you're making things up.

According to you I have relayed this story before on this forum. I probably did, and a few others. So by relaying the same story again, that is evidence I am making things up? Amazingly stupid.

Whatever you do, don't mention this incident again if a similar subject were to come up. According to Old Professer, mentioning the same thing twice means you made it up.

Not stupid, unsupported by fact.

Well, hindsight is 20/20.

Of course, due to Old Professer's excellent memory, since I apparently mentioned this incident back shortly after the time it occurred a couple of years ago, the fact I have mentioned it again magically means the incident never actually occurred. I should go back and see if they've got my old cashier's report on file...maybe it changed! (you know, like the newspapers on Back to the Future).

Well, your posts are that, too. For once we agree.

Yup Winco service does sort of suck, but I have made friends with one of the deli ladies and one of the take & bake pizza counter ladies and they give me extra special service. But you see the same thing I do in the meat department (though last week I did pick up a nice roast there at a super price, we ate it last night and it was delicious).

I really think they are set up to make the bulk of their profit selling the higher end stuff to indiscriminate buyers (and those would be the ones on food stamps, who don't have to pay out of their own pockets).

And I don't know about Reno, but here in Eugene they have a whole aisle of assorted foods in authentic Mexican brands and styles - and the stuff isn't cheap.
