We were talking on a radio discussion board about HD radio; a Boston country station announced that they will feature a classic country channel on it (High Definition radio, which is available but expensive for now, allows several sub-channels to be placed on broadcast frequencies). Anyway, I started to rattle off some funny country song titles. Join in!

Actual Country Song Titles:

Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off--Joe Nichols

Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox If I Die--Joe Diffie

Dropkick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life--Bobby Bare

Here's A Quarter--Call Someone Who Cares--Travis Tritt

I'm A People--George Jones

Fax Me A Beer--Hank Williams, Jr.

The One on the Left is On The Right--Johnny Cash

A Boy Named Sue--ditto (writer: Shel Silverstein)

She's Got A Butt Bigger Than The Beatles (spoof of "They Got A Love Bigger than the Beatles)--Cletus T. Judd

"How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away"--Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks

And if you play a Country record backwards, you dog comes back to life, you get your job back, your wife comes home, and your truck starts running just fine.

Another one I can't remember who did - "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me".

I think that was the Bellamy Brothers.

>>"Does Your Chewing Gum Loose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight"

Skiffle great Lonnie Donegan, who passed away a couple years back, did this song. (If tin whistles are made of tin,
what are foghorns made of?) He also did "Rock Island Line"
and was an early influence of the Beatles. I have a best of
CD of his material. Donegan also collaborated with
Van Morrison on an album called the Skiffle Sessions
a while back.

One interesting contestant on the original Gong Show found a way to get on and off stage without getting "gonged". There was a rule: you couldn't gong an act until 30 seconds of
it passed. Well, this guy strode on stage with a cowboy hat and sang one line of a country song:

"Well, it's been so lonesome in the saddle since my
horse died."

End of song. Didn't get gonged because it only lasted
5 seconds or so! So there we have a country novelty song,
and a very short one.

Austin Lounge Lizards - Jesus Loves Me But He Can't Stand You

Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks - How Can I Miss You If you Won't Go Away?

I may have to start one of these at my place sometime... Maybe rock though.. or multi-genre...
