It would have been strange if she had been 'approved.'
“I do recall that Joan Baez was the only one on the left to speak out against the genocide going on in Cambodia & the boat people from Viet-Nam, and admit that the antiwar movement had some responsibility for it.”
She did. But that does not put the toothpaste back in the tube. The blood is on her hands. And if she is opposing the GWOT, she is just showing that she learned NOTHING from her Vietnam era mistakes.
Who lets anti-war/military performers anywhere near the soldiers?
Not irony, you twit. Consequence.
“I have stood as firmly against the Iraq war as I did the Vietnam War 40 years ago. . . . I realize now that I might have contributed to a better welcome home for those soldiers fresh from Vietnam.”
How much more concieted can a single person get? She helps advocat a culture that pits the public against soldiers, then thinks she can give the soldiers a better homecoming while the MSM and certain protestors spit on them.
That is why the story must be told from generation to generation. The younger generation needs to know what lies behind what is happening today.
I always figured Joan to be a well-meaning twit.
I'm too young to remember the early protests against Vietnam and by the time they started to creep into my conscious she was not even close to being the most obnoxious.
Anyway, you're right about her taking on communist human rights violations. She doesn't seem to be a hypocrite:
from wiki
Her disquiet at the human rights violations of communist Vietnam made her increasingly critical of its government and she organized the publication, on May 30, 1979, of a full-page advertisement, published in four major U.S. newspapers, in which the communists were described as having created a nightmare (which put her at odds with a large segment of the domestic left wing, who were uncomfortable criticizing a leftist regime. In a letter of response, Jane Fonda said she was unable to substantiate the "claims" Baez made regarding the atrocities being committed by the Khmer Rouge). This experience ultimately led Baez to found her own human rights group, Humanitas International, whose focus was to target oppression wherever it occurred, criticizing right and left wing regimes equally.
I wouldn’t pay to see either of them.
Get lost Baez. I’m sure there’s a PBS pledge drive that needs yodelling from an aging boomer.
Joan Baez is a f***ing communist slut. Screw you, Joan Baez.
“...says she does not know why she was not allowed to perform for recovering soldiers at a US Army hospital.”
Oh yes, it’s SUCH a mystery, Joan! /sarc
Joanie has always been and continues to be a smug, self-righteous, self-important ass. She is not fit to be in the same state as any of our brave soldiers.
It would have been like Rudy Vallee showing up to serenade the returning troops from Vietnam. Even Mellenhead is an oldies act these days.
I agree. Who was the dumb-*ss in charge of booking the ‘talent’ to begin with ? They need to be fired or re-assigned.
I greatly disliked her during the Vietnam war... still do
Uh... wow
So if the Towelyban murdered his family, he wouldn’t want them brought to justice?
Maybe the fact that she’s Ms. Joan Who? and is 66 years old, and the servicemen’s grandmothers’age has something to do with it.
Joan Baez, another leftover leftist from the destructive 1960’s, who never grew up.
And they wonder why she was disinvited?
