Israeli Intelligence Agency (Mossad) warned CIA of attacks - CIA did not heed warning
Jerusalem Post ^ | 9/17/01 | Douglas Davis

Posted on 09/17/2001 6:29:50 AM PDT by truthandlife

Mossad officials traveled to Washington last month to warn the CIA and the FBI that a cell of up to 200 terrorists was planning a major operation, according to a report in the Sunday Telegraph here yesterday.

The paper said the Israeli officials specifically warned their counterparts in Washington that "large-scale terrorist attacks on highly visible targets on the American mainland were imminent." They offered no specific information about targets, but they did link the plot to Afghanistan-based terrorist Osama bin Laden, and they told the Americans there were "strong grounds" for suspecting Iraqi involvement.

A US administration official told the paper that it was "quite credible" that the CIA did not heed the Mossad warning: "It has a history of being over-cautious about Israeli information." But the official noted that "if this is true, then the refusal to take it seriously will mean heads will roll."

In another development, the Sunday Times reported that an account at a branch of Barclays Bank in the London district of Notting Hill was used by a suspected bin Laden lieutenant to finance and disseminate Bin Laden's fatwas (religious rulings) and to maintain contacts with various elements in bin Laden's global network.

The account was held by Saudi dissident Khalid al-Fawwaz, who is currently being held in custody awaiting the outcome of extradition proceedings to the United States on charges of conspiring with bin Laden to murder Americans.

The Barclays account is understood to form part of a web of bank accounts and front companies used by bin Laden to underwrite his Al Qaida terror network.

Court documents link Fawwaz to a Bin Laden fatwa calling for the death of American civilians "anywhere in the world they can be found," which was faxed directly to him by Bin Laden.

Fawwaz was personally appointed by bin Laden to set up and run the London-based Advice and Reformation Committee. The organization was ostensibly dedicated to war-relief work, but British and US officials now believe it was in fact a component in Bin Laden's terror network.

Fawwaz is also thought to have been directly involved in the terrorist cell that perpetrated the simultaneous bombings of the US embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi in 1998. More than 200 people died in those attacks.

Let's not blame the FBI or CIA for the mess they are in.

In 1993 all respectable FBI agents, worth their salt were downgraded by Msssssssssreno. In 1995 Mr. Deutsch passed a "rule" that CIA agents had to be practically seminary graduates. This is the same Deutsch who downloaded all the CIA sensitive information he could, into his un-secure computer.

Now that our President Bush is in place, we can expect the FBI to be upgraded to where it was before the reign of x42 and #97.

The CIA will be allowed to recruit every expert "invisible" person from what ever country they can get. It will cost money, and it will not happen in a day.

Something to not lose sight of here; pretty much every security agency gets dozens and dozens of "warnings" and "alerts" each day. It's not as if they are sitting around flipping cards into a hat with the teletype unplugged.

The secure installations I've worked at recieved cautions, alerts, warnings and threats on a regular basis.

There's an almost horoscope like quality to them, they're often so vague and numerous that no matter what happens or where, you'd be able to sift through the advisories and find something that makes you say "Daym!"

Please don't confuse folks with actual real world situations ..... it will give them headaches and could slow them down in searching out scapegoats ! Regards

You know why the Mossad is not 'reliable'? Because if you accept the Jews' evidence it shows that your people haven't been doing their jobs. Well, the CIA always does its job, ergo the Israelis are prevaricating.

Nevertheless, I must try.

When the emotions surge and the saliva begins to fly it is all too easy to overlook details.

Learn english, the word is "flown" not "flyed". I guess you are from Isreal? And, yes, I have, and, no, the security is symbolic, but it doesn't stop terorrist. It certainly would not have stopped these terrorists. I repeat: These terrorists used valid boarding passes, boarded with or without legal knives, and did nothing, absofreeping nothing, illegal before committing their crimes. So, how would any other security have stopped this?

I appreciate your posts, but the title you gave is figer pointing/laying blame with the USA.

How do you KNOW the CIA did NOT heed the warning? How do you KNOW they were not working on it??

Let's report without twisting or editorializing the title of someone elses article.

"Our first item of business is to arm and train every male adult in America, and recognize that a armed civilian population is the greatest deterrent to a potential terrorist offensive in any part of our country.

Joe American Citizen has always been the best protector of America. We don't need to adopt a police state mentality to make America safe. This is our individual responsibility, and I'm not passing it on to some government thug SWAT team who neither respect my family, or our freedoms."

Very well said!!! I wish every adult in America could read that and take it to heart!!!

I read a few days ago that both the Israeli AND the French intelligence agencies informed the CIA of this pending disaster at least a week before it happened. (I can't seem to find the exact URL now where I read that.)

So they were warned that something, sometime was going to happen somewhere. They still couldn't have prevented it. Should they have shot the 2nd plane down over Manhattan and only killed the people on the ground and/or in their homes and shops? Those who trained, financed, supported and carried out this atrocity are to blame. This isn't a movie. The good guys don't always win, but we need to try.

From reply #19 for the current FR thread " 2 [3] MORE SEPT. 11 HIJACKERS TIED TO IRAQ (Powell, EU, China Try to Stop Action Against Sadam) ":

The source for the 200 Taliban (ALQaeda) members being trained by Iraq starting in July 2001 (versus April 2001-my error)is at:

Iraq trains Bin Laden’s Men in Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction

29 September: Increasing intelligence reports are reaching DEBKAfile that the 200 Taliban fighters reaching North Iraqi in mid-July were in fact members of Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda. They came in response to an Iraqi offer to train Al Qaeda terrorist personnel in the use of chemical and biological warfare weapons.....

I realize that there are skeptics about Debka but I have heard and read this same report several other places unrelated to Debka. I am pretty sure I heard and saw Adm Woolsey talk about it on a Frontline piece on Iraq last month.

In reply #20 for the thread RedBloodedAmerican astutely pointed out:

That is why the MOSSAD told the USA Govt that there were 200 members of the Al Queda terrorists on our soil. Remember Ashcroft saying they were looking for about 200 people???
