Vanity: Physicist and Mrs. Physicist Had a Son Today
Mrs. Physicist, with my invaluable assistance | November 16, 2001 | self

Posted on 11/16/2001 7:40:05 PM PST by Physicist

I am pleased--irrationally exuberant, in fact--to announce the birth of my son today.

Jacob David Sterner was born by caesarean section at 1:41 PM EST today at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA. He weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz., and was 19.25 inches long. Jake and Mrs. Physicist came through the process in excellent health.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Mark Finnegan, who delivered our daughters Emily and Molly, also at Riddle, in 1995 and 1997, respectively.

Here is a bigger picture of Jake.

Here I am holding my boy.

To take this post into the stratosphere of vanity, I will inflict upon you a valedictory sonnet, which I penned today:

ATLAS

Jacob David Sterner, start your life!
Knight errant, leave the fortress of the womb,
Your country's been attacked, and all is strife,
Ten patriots exhort you from the tomb.

The fashion of the day is ignorance,
You'll have to think and learn, despite the japes,
And cover for your neighbor's indolence,
Your sweat will feed and clothe ungrateful apes.

Your father has affrontery enough,
To ask so much of one boy at his birth,
But know that you are made of Sterner stuff:
Your shoulders can accomodate the Earth.

To sire you was my duty, dearest son:
The world needs such a man as you'll become.

(The line about "ten patriots" refers to his ten ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War.)

Congratulations on the birth of your son!

I would just like to share an appropriate verse from I Corinthians 15:51,

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed," ;^)

BTW, about those daughters what are they, 6 and 4? I have two sons 7 and 4 keep them in mind when your daughters are marrying age. ;^)

Again, congrats!

In slightly more than six years, I have prayed in earnest three times, on the off-chance that anyone was listening..... I will take that to mean that you don't know positively that God ISN'T there.... so there is still room for a change of heart!

You probably don't remember, but you were one of the first people I "met" on FR - I am so thrilled for you and your family - a son is a wonderous thing!

Congratulations - the many praying Freepers will keep you all in our prayers.....until the day you join us in Christ.

"It seems that more congratulations are due to me; I finally got you to make your first post on FR!"- You dragged somebody else into signing on too. I can't believe "Auntie Enzymologist" had to come over to FR to get a first peek at the latest carrier of the Sterner Y chromosome. What a wonderful boy! He really does look like you, with the proto-nose, even. Congratulations to you both and Happy Thanksgiving. :) BTW I would have registered as "Chemist" but it was already taken.

Hi, Sis!

I can't believe "Auntie Enzymologist" had to come over to FR to get a first peek at the latest carrier of the Sterner Y chromosome.

I suppose you would have preferred me sending you those big jpegs as email attachments. ;-)

We're still getting settled in with Jake, here. We're trying to get him so that his wakeful periods are not exactly out of phase with ours, but it looks like we're in for a bad night, as he has slept almost all day. :-/

BTW I would have registered as "Chemist" but it was already taken.

"Biochemist" is still available. <g>

I should add that Mrs. Physicist made the candy-corn hat. I have photographs of her from today, but she browbeat me into not posting any of them.

Well I should hope NOT! We ladies have to work hard giving birth (that's why they call it LABOR), and the pictures just after the event don't always show us in our best light!

Seriously, congrats to you, Mrs. P. and your little son; that candy corn hat is SO CUTE!! May you always be as happy as your are today! Congrats to your little girls on becoming big sisters to a little brother; but they'll have to be reminded in a few years just how special that is! LOL!!
