Dear FReeper,

Here is today's ACTION ITEM:

ISSUE: According to GOP News & Views, The Club for Growth is taking nominations for their first-ever RINO (Republican In Name Only) of the year award. This award will recognize a Republican who has advanced egregious anti-growth, anti-freedom or anti-free-market policies. The 'winner' may be a member of Congress or any other state or local elected official. Here are some front-runners who have already been nominated:

ACTION ITEM: Please fax your nominations 202-955-9466 or e-mail them to SteveMoore@clubforgrowth.org by 12/19/2001. You should include a few sentences about your nominee's efforts in 2001. If you have particularly dumb quotes from the nominee which attempt to explain his actions, please include this information.

NOTE: Be sure to forward this email to all of your friends -- let's make it an embarrassment to be Republican AND liberal! Thank you!

I nominate Jim Leach for joining the hildabeast in calling for abolishing the Electoral College, and second the McBain nomination for his asinine campaign finance "reform"/shred the 1st Amendment crapola.

All Republicans in the Senate for their ignorant 100-0 vote on airline security.

Please bump this thread around to your lists.

I nominate Ron Paul for blaming the Sept. 11 attacks on "U.S. interventionist foreign policy" and I nominate him again for voting against giving Bush "fast track" trade negotiating authority.

Thought I'd better make sure to nominate my Governor (Don Sundquist), so I clicked on the thread, only to find his name at the TOP of the list.

Just in case you hadn't heard, he tried to shut down the state parks by cutting funding, and cut the funding to public education systems in order to make us feel bad.

I'd say punishing the children of his political opponents should lock up the award for him.

Sorry about that - should be a reply to post 1, not post 4...

The problem is that Jim Jeffords did what we ask all RINOs to do; leave. And then we start piling on them.

Doesn't make too much sense to me.

I go with Sundquist because he'll have set back the Repubican party in that state for a decade once he leaves.

IMHO, Ron Paul was right on being against Fast Track. It usurps congressional power as defined by the Constitution and I was glad to see my own congresswoman (Shelley Moore Capito - R, WV) actually vote with Mr. Paul on this issue.

I just can't believe so many sheeple have been suckered into this Patriotic Act. Every day our liberties go by the wayside. You might as well include all of the so-called pubbies in Congress for their participation into passing this act, bloating the budget, keeping the boarders open, stifling the investigation into the Clinton's crimes, etc. For this you get a 90% approval. Only can happen in a "Two-party Cartel".

I'm nominating PA 8th district Greenwood for his past loyal support of crintonic policy, for his anti American, pro-globalist, liberal, leftist, lieing low methods of squirming his way through congress without showing any sign of interest in anything unless it has socialist designs.

He claims he bases his congressional actions on the will of the people in the eigth district.

Does anyone know how that is verifiable??? I can't believe the low voting turn out he manages is any kind of mandate.
