The online petition protesting the proposed plan to create a "culturally diverse" and "politically correct" statue of the 911 WTC Flag Raising continues to gather signatures at a very fast pace. Signatures passed forty thousand (40,000) just as the petition reached four days of activity and continue on at this hour. This despite an announcement by New York City and the New York City Fire Department Management indicating they will scrap plans to modify the statue.
To understand why signatures continue to pour in, one MUST understand the outrage that people feel regarding this blatant attempt to revise history for political purposes, and one must read the entire petition. The two points made in the petition to the City of New York and to the New York City Fire Department read as follows:
The City government and the Fire Department have not met the points raised by the petition because they continue to drive towards an agenda that will produce a memorial that may not be an accurate portrayal of what occurred on 911. As the petition says, "...to depict it in any other manner sullies an historical and a heroic act, and descrates hallowed ground. The American people will not stand for it."
Perhaps the best individual comment from the petition itself in this regards, which drives home the feelings that are typical of the tens of thousands signing the petition is the following, from signator number 11497 of the petition itself:
"WHAT A PATHETIC NATION WE HAVE BECOME when we have to alter history, and the TRUTH, to accomodate bleeding heart liberal, blood sucking interest groups. I am of hispanic origin, my parents were born in Puerto Rico, but i was born here, in the land God himself chose to be America. So what if the firemen who raised our glorious flag were white, they were AMERICANS, showing cowards we cant be pushed around. If you poor unloved, misunderstood crybabies want to be represented in the monument, take a close look and see that you are, in the flag itself. The glorious flag that will wave long after we're all eaten by worms. Political correctness has become morally and politically incorrect. Wake up and smell the coffee before we destroy ourselves. signed, an AMERICAN."What the politicians and the planners are missing is the depth of the emotion and the commitment to principle being displayed by the people protesting their plans. The emotion is deep, the commitment is rock solid ... do not trifle with it.
Thousands of our countrymen and women died in a viscious and dasterdly attack by enemies of all we hold dear. Liberals, Conservatives, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Irish, Brits, Canadians, Far Eastern, Native Americans ... the reach of this issue cuts across all political, ethnic, and economic boundries. You politicians and planners and administrators and ideologs trifle with and ignore that fact at the peril of your political and "professional" careers ... and well you should.
Many of you have shown by even considering such a proposal to change the events depicted in the flag raising that you are not worthy of the public trust in this author's opinion. May you all be shown the door so that individuals who see clearly that the time for political correctness and political driven notions of diversity are past.
A new time has been rung in. It was rung in on the horrifc explosions at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in a field in Pennsylvania. It was rung in on the cataclysmic thunder of the collapse of the twin towers. It was rung in on the heroic efforts of tens of thousands of emergency workers, firemen, policement, volunteer citizens, our national guard and armed forces. It was rung in on the prayers and and outpouring of sympathy and aid of millions of everyday Americans. It was epitomized by the raising of that flag. IT IS A TIME TO BE AMERICANS.
We are a diverse people, but in America we are also supposed to be a united people. Now we have found the reason, once again to unite. No political correctness or other personal, ideological, political or self serving agenda will stand in its way. That flag, the one those three firemen raised, represents everyone of us. The politicains and planners had best look to the flag itself to see all races, sexes and cultures represented that come together to make us all Americans.
So, I urge all to continue to have folks sign this petition. Email, voicemail, snail mail, in your halls, at your coffee breaks, on your lunch breaks, over your fences ... by phone, by word of mouth ... spread this word and lets amass numbers so great that the message of American unification and the DEATH OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS is so overwhelming, so over powering that no one will mistake it, or dare ignore it.
Bump.

Broke 50,000 in five days. Amazing, humbling, heart warming and hope engendering.
Gotta go for more, for 100K. Gotta BURY the notion of revisionism in this Republic once and for all. Truth, integrity and virtue are REQUIRED for liberty!
I have to admit that I am not one who believes that petitions have a whole lot of effect. A petition of grievance is only as effective as the willingness of the receiver to 'hear,' and reflect upon, its content. No matter the number of people who have affixed their John Hancock, when you are presenting a petition to a group that believes it knows what's best for the rest of us (not to mention a group that believes that one holier-than-thou leftist is of intrinsically more value than a million of us ordinary peons, simply by virtue of the fact that he has a [perverted] vision of what should be) they tend to respond with a 'you don't really know what you are talking about, no matter how many of you signed this crummy piece of paper' snear.
With that said, the response to this petition has been beyond belief. And it has struck a chord not only with conservatives/patriots, but with those who would have defended the 'right' to burn the very flag that is depicted in this statue....pre 9/11. People (even those on the left of the political spectrum) are (at least in the near-term wake of 9/11) fed up with revisionism.
Let's hope the petition accomplishes more than this, but it has already served the purpose of opening our, and their, eyes to the fact that a large segment of the formerly apathetic (those who didn't bat an eye when modern historians decided that Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe ought to replace Robert E. Lee and Clara Barton in our children's history books) is awakening. It seems to me that the catalyst for this awakening has been the fact that the 'history' that is being rewritten now is 'history' through which we all suffered (agonizingly, and personally). When you are an actual participant in/witness to history, you want the real truth to be known.
It's one thing for the agenda-driven liars modern historians to distort and degrade events which occurred, and people who lived, more than two centuries ago. It's going to be a whole other ballgame if the left-wing powers that be continue to try to tell us that our own eyes and ears deceived us four months ago. We know better. :)
57,000+ at this moment.
Congratulations, Jeff. As always, proud to call you friend.
That is a damn lot of people proud to give their real first name, town, zip code AND email address.
In addition, perhaps people will link the recognition they are experiencing to the world around them, the one they are living in and many of the "revisions" and "conceptions" that have been foisted upon them in the name of these same agendas by these same people. For example, the misconception that we live in a nation that is a democracy instead of the Republic she was designed to be and yet is, despite the hellacious efforts of enemies and revisionists.
Any effort that leans or leads towards those goals is a good one and a successful one.
If you haven;t seen it already, ready the comments on the petition from signator 11497.
150 to go to the 60,000 point. Sometime near or right after Midnight Mountian time.
83,450 BUMP!
