February 26, 2002 -- IF there's one thing the capos of the New York publishing houses should be reading these days, it's the bottom line.
And the big news at the cash registers is this: Not a single book on the prized New York Times nonfiction best sellers list denigrates America, past or present. Not a single book argues that we need to turn all guys into misty-eyed, politically correct wimps.

Excellent! I was in a public library on Saturday waiting to check out and they had posted the list of current NYT Best Sellers. I was so amused at the number of conservative or otherwise deep books on the non-fiction list.
Presidents and Politics, who knew that those of us in fly-over country was so literate!
Of course, #2 was a touchy-feely "spirit" book of the "NewAge" (rhymes with "sewage") kind, but this was truly heartening.
NYT might have postpone posting such a horrifying list for the next few months, due of course to "conservative -- er, technical difficulties"

This is vaugely familiar to the talk radio phenom. The libs are forever complaining that the conservatives 'control' the media and point to talk radio as their proof. But it isn't the ownership that dictates the tenor of these shows but the listeners who 'control' what's going to survive. Same thing for the publishing game. If you want to make $$$ you've got to publish what people want to read!

Well now that the list has conservative values, it will be argued that the "rankings reflect sales" approach is racist, homophobic, and xenophobic.
The list will be changed to reflect the "diverness" of Amerika. 3 books on the list by women, 2 by foreiners, 4 by minorities, any 1 (maybe) by a white male.

Speaking of readers' revolt, are there any signs that those insipid rags called the NYT, Globe, et. al., are suffering from decreasing subscriptions and/or advertising?

No surprise here--didn't we all discover in November 2000 that democrats can't read?

Unfortunately, "Angry White Men" by Michael Moore may soon be joining the ranks of best sellers--the New York Post editors should have inserted a mention of this. The liberals have an easy comeback line.

Then they have their "Bear in Mind" list each week, which Ann Coulter calls "Liberal Books That Didn't Make It."
