[history]
Republican Bill Simon's troubled campaign for governor of California has secured what it is calling "a major victory" with 22 of the Mexican American Political Association's 32 chapters voting during the weekend to endorse him over Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

Thanks for the post which I think is great news. I've always felt that the Hispanic block in America is a gold mine for conservative Republicans.
I just wanted to point something out. Is it not flabbergastingly stupid that people are reacting so negatively to this jury award crap. The guy was a drug dealer. The board that Simon sits on fired him. The California judicial system is looney. End of story! Yet, even Governor Gray Out has used this as a campaign add. People who really don't pay attention to this stuff think that a "Simon run company" got dinged. What's going on?

I agree!
The media is deliberately fuzzing things up to support Davis!
gubamyster - thanks for the ping.
I was about to shut down for the night and decided to check one more time before closing!
This might be the announcement at a Simon event tomorrow!

This is a feather in Simon's cap. It couldn't have come at a more difficult time for his campaign. He certainly works quietly and hard without a lot of flashiness and doesn't whine or complain how unfair life is when he takes a beating. No, he goes right back to work. I hope GrayDown becomes fat, sassy and overconfident to the point where he thinks Simon is a dead duck. I like dead duck Simon's chances a lot better than when GrayDown took him seriously.

Maybe there is hope yet. All Simon has to do is give the facts about the circumstances referred to in Davis' two dirt slinging campaign ads about him and remind the electorate what a lying SOB Davis is along with a few other choice tidbits about that lying socialist retirement stealing SOB which would be easy to reference and I wouldn't be surprised if he rides in on a landslide. But Simon has to work for it. I expect some real action after Labor Day. He couldn't have dreamed of a sleezier opponent to expose.

There has always been hope for Simon's campaign, despite all the hysterical shrieks to the contrary from FR. Heck, you've got an incumbent who still can't break 48% in the polls, despite his opponent suffering through several bad weeks.
This endorsement may be the momentum swing Simon needs, to be followed up by several Presidential fundraisers (and hopefully accompanying positive publicity) this week. And these visits will provide Simon some desperately needed funding going into Labor Day.

Simon BUMP...

Simon was just on KRLA for about 10 minutes. He pointed out that after Bush's trip he will have done 5 fundraisers for Simon - more than for any other candidate.
Simon also mentioned that will be out later this month & Elaine Chau will be out next month.

Simon also mentioned that will be out later this month Que?

Thanks for the flag. This endorsement sure changed the tone of a Simon thread, eh? Saw on another thread that Grayout was at 51%, in disapproval. Hehehehe. Thus, way too early to adopt the "Chicken Little" mantra for me, though that is what the presstitutes want. Simon is going to keep chugging on and, come October, there will be a helluva campaign. GoSimonGo....

Simon also mentioned that will be out later this month Sorry, that should read that Simon also mentioned that Don Evans will be out later this month & Elaine Chau next month.

He has been over 50% disapproval in (I believe) every single poll in my spreadsheet. That's why I firmly believe that if Simon is simply within a few point he'll win this election. Despite all the folks that have apparently given up on him. But since they're so easily swayed, perhaps a few days of good news will win them back over. :-)
Then again, nine polls showing Simon leading over the summer didn't seem to impress some of them.

Yep. Unfortunately, so many have written off California that they cannot see the forest for the trees. Davis is as weak as an incumbent one could ever hope for. I am really anxious to see some new polls--and not the Rat one showing Simon at 30% and Davis at 47%. I'm definitely keeping the faith...

Yeah. But let's be realistic. I do believe Simon's trailing in the polls. He's had a rough patch. And he was only marginally leading (though consistently) earlier, with lots of undecideds. I just don't buy that Davis is suddenly holding a 17-point lead. Let's see what happens after this week's endorsement news and Presidential fundraisers.
Look, remember just a couple of months ago we were having similar arguments on the Torricelli threads?
He [Forrester] can't win!
It's a strong Dem state!
He doesn't have the money to compete with the incumbent!
The incumbent is a fierce fighter who doesn't like to lose! :-)

I just wonder how many went to 'undecided' and not Grayout. As to Forrester, he has got a real shot. It is going to be a very exciting November for us junkies....

Hey, have you noticed how little action this pro-Simon thread is getting? I wonder if there would only be twenty posts if the title said "Hispanics Turn Back on Floudering Simon Campaign?" :-)
