Davis Is Destroying California by the Numbers--and Having Fun with You Too!

By Leo Lacayo Saturday, September 21, 2002

The San Francisco Chronicle just can't bring itself to give the people of California the bad news all at once, but the red ink is just so abundant that they are no longer able to hide it. While Simon continues to show favorably in the polls, Gray Davis shows up with negative ratings across the board in excess of 50 %.

Under Gray Davis, California has gone from the fifth largest economy in the world, to sixth--behind France! If Davis is re-elected, most people fear we will soon become a banana republic.

Davis presides over a soaring number of lost jobs. Californians now account for half the unemployed in the entire nation! Business continues to fail due to a bad business climate (after all we can't all pay Davis to play). Regulatory and tax burdens continues to grow exponentially in order to satisfy the grotesque government deficit.

The ink was barely dry on the state super-train deal, when he was collecting from those who were benefiting from it. If this were a Republican, he would have been tarred and feathered as he was being indicted! Maybe it's time for the U.S. Attorney's office to investigate this man. One thing is for sure, Gray Davis is apparently the invisible man: gone crazy, does what he wants to do, and seems to get away with it.

Then there are those funny campaign ads that Davis is running on Spanish language TV. They are narrated by Loretta Sanchez of Anaheim country, and slightly featuring do-nothing Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (translates into CROSS BREAST LOVER). This is supposed to neutralize the pro-Simon ads by the President and former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Well, for starters no one knows Sanchez. Nobody cares to know Bustamante. Sanchez's Spanish is atrocious, and the long portable table Bustamante is pictured at--supposedly working at with Davis--is empty! I would love to know how often these three media darlings actually meet!

Even funnier is that the ad shows Davis shows on an imaginary campus socializing with students. I guarantee you that unless the students have a lot of money, they will never see Gray Davis. Go ahead--do a poll! How many times have you seen Gray Davis, except at fundraisers for the rich and influential.

Time for Californians to make a decision: State or corrupt Banana Republic? What do you think ?

Wow! Half of the unemployed are in California! Isn't anybody worried about this? It scares me to death as California has been the engine that drive the US economy for the last twenty years.

We need a govenor that understands. This certainly isn't Davis. We need Simon to restore Califonia's economy. Pass this article to your friends.

Just a gut instinct, but I suspect Davis's intern will be male.

This is a misconception. California is one of the slowest growing states in terms of Gross State Product and Employment. Much of the growth comes from states like Colo, Utah, AZ, Nev, Tex. Suprise, these are states with low taxes and regulation, basically minimal government intervention in the economy.

I hate to rain on Chronwatch's parade, but August 2002 labor data does not support (to put it mildly) the assertion that "Californians now account for half the unemployed in the entire nation!"

5.7%, 8.1 million nationwide
6.2%, 1.1 million in California

Whew! It was that blame-blame mentality, again-- While Californians don't account for half the nation's unemployed, afterall, that was the closest anyone came to blaming Californians for the rest of it. :-)

Well, he CAN do anything he wants. He still has the "emergency powers" he granted himself in January, 2001, and uses them routinely to break whatever laws might get in his way.

He recently used his "get out of jail free card" to violate a people's initiatiave, Prop. 2, which required the state to use gas tax money for roads. [He loaned the money to the general fund to make the defecit look smaller.]
