Welcome to ChronWatch -- Striving for Balance in the News A Congress of Captain Queegs Written by Raymond Kraft Friday, November 24, 2006 In 1951 Herman Wouk wrote a Pulitzer-Prize winning novel entitled ''The Caine Mutiny,'' starring the fictional Captain Phillip Francis Queeg. The 1954 film starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg received seven Oscar nominations. If you haven't read the book, or seen the movie in the last few years, it's worth a trip to the bookstore or the movie store to refresh your memory. In ''The Caine Mutiny,'' Captain Queeg is a Navy captain of the U.S.S. Caine...

Lib/Dem/Soc/Commies -- You've Forgotten The Lessons Of 9/11 Written by Doc Farmer Monday, September 11, 2006 Author's Note: This is a request to most of my conservative, patriotic readers. Please don't read it with yourself in mind. Instead, send it along to every lib/dem/soc/commie discussion board, mailing list or group you can find. Send it to every lib/dem/soc/commie media outlet. Call every lib/dem/soc/commie talk show with it. This message is for them, and it's high time they heard it. Five years. It's not that long a time, when you consider the history of our nation. It's a mere blink of...

It has become fashionable for Democrats and other Liberals to intone the relentless mantra, "George Bush has made too many mistakes in Iraq!" at every opportunity, without ever bothering to explain exactly what those mistakes were and why they were mistakes, as if it were a self-evident truism. I understand this: they are determined to define themselves as the Un-Bush, right or wrong. They would rather be wrong than admit that George Bush has ever done anything right. Inexplicably, many Republicans and other Conservatives have fallen into the bad habit of intoning their own obsequious shibboleth in reply, "Yes, America...

Note: Sgt. Steve Boggess is one of ChronWatch's newer writers that editor Gregory Borse, Barbara Stock, and I have worked with recently. Steve is currently stationed in Germany, but was on duty in Iraq when he first contacted us, saying that he aspires to become an op-ed writer and political commentator. He expected to be reassigned back to Iraq soon. We were sorry today to receive the e-mail message below from his wife, Rhonda. I hope that you will include Steve in your prayers. And I think it would be excellent if ChronWatch readers would send get-well messages to this...

The Lies of Michael Moore in ''Fahrenheit 9/11'' Written by Doc Farmer Wednesday, June 30, 2004 A half-truth is the worst kind of lie. I’ve been getting a lot of guff from some of the lib/dem/soc/commie participants on the ChronWatch Forum for daring to comment on the movie, '''Fahrenheit 9/11,''' without seeing it. My view was that if you could smell a large pile of manure, you didn’t have to jump into it to experience it. However, that did little to satisfy them. '''Coward!''' they cried. Moreover, I didn’t want to spend my hard-earned money to fatten up an already...

"Evil Had Triumphed, Until...." Posted by Mike Denunzio Thursday, April 24, 2003 Mike DeNunzio is the chairman of the San Francisco GOP. Evil had triumphed: Mass murders with use of chemical weapons, prisons for children, torture chambers, and the worse is yet to come. A brutal dictator living in marbled palaces with gold fixtures dining on delicacies, deprived a terrorized nation of nutrition and health care. Despite these facts, good men and women, brilliant academics, informed diplomats, elected officials, celebrities, and respected religious leaders, protested and opposed military intervention. This Holy Week offered a time to ponder why good people...

"ChronWatch’s List of War Heroes: Our First Try" Posted by Tom Sparkman Tuesday, April 15, 2003 ChronWatch recently ran a story about the Big Losers of the Iraqi War, which was a big hit on this site. It was also posted on some other sites, where it was equally popular and generated lots of comments. On the Free Republic discussion site, members expanded the list to nearly eighty losers, and suggested that ChronWatch should draw up a companion version: ChronWatch's List of Winners following the Iraqi conflict. Below is our first try at nominating the big winners of the war....

"President Bush: We Owe This Man!" Posted by Fernando Oaxaca Monday, April 14, 2003 It is Day 23 of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which began on Thursday evening, March 20, 2003. Less than three weeks have sped by since the ''Decapitation Strike'' of bunker-buster bombs dropped from an American B-1 flying over Baghdad, guided to a building where Saddam Hussein, his sons, and other Iraqi leaders were supposedly meeting. The resulting Iraqi casualties of that night attack are not known yet, but the violent overthrow of Saddam¹s Iraqi Regime soon followed. Today that regime change is viewed as a good thing...

"Somebody 'Splain This to Me" Posted by Doc Farmer Saturday, April 12, 2003 Editor's note: Doc Farmer, who resides and works in Doha, Qatar, has been spending some of his Arabian nights thinking about the situation back in the USA, and he'd like for someone to 'splain a few things to him. In fact, quite a few things. He writes: I'd like to get some explanations on some things I keep hearing from the lib/dem/soc/commie group, as well as some quiet musings of my own, and I hope you'll be kind enough to oblige this query. -How can a war...

"Who Are the Really Big Losers of the Day?" Posted by the ChronWatch Founder, Jim Sparkman Wednesday, April 09, 2003 As the Iraqi War comes to an end, who are the big losers? -Saddam, of course, is the biggest loser, and good riddance! -The liberals, who just love to protect their favorite dictators. -The anti-American crowd here in the U.S. and the French. -The anti-Bush critics. -The U.N. Debating Club. -Saddam's minister of information, whose reports have been worthy of a ''Saturday Night Live'' performance. -Those who put out those stroies about our military ''Quagmire.'' The retired generals on TV...

Liberal Media Incite Andrew McCrae to Violence? By the ChronWatch Founder, Jim Sparkman Tuesday, December 03, 2002 Senator Daschle blames Rush Limbaugh and Fox News for inciting their listeners and viewers to go out and do violent things. Andrew McCrae shoots a police officer in Red Bluff, and he cites the shooting as a protest against ''police state'' tactics and especially corporations, in general. Therefore, is it logical to blame the liberal media, like the Chronicle for leading Andrew McCrae over the edge. Note his personal message below. It's a ''business beware,'' and ''all corporations are evil,'' message worthy of...

SLLOTW Winner! By the ChronWatch Founder, Jim Sparkman Wednesday, November 13, 2002 It's amazing what goes through the mind of a true liberal. Just check out this guy's thinking in his Silliest Liberal Letter of the Week Winner. Editor. WAR IS HELL Editor -- I ask George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice and the rest of their oiligarchy (sic) to view the first 30 minutes of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" several times in a row before they again contemplate sending Americans through similar hell in Iraq. The hoped-for result of their petro-politics is not worth the...

Veteran's Day Speech by Partick Mallon It is very humbling as one who has never served in the military to be afforded the opportunity to speak on Veterans Day. Looking around this audience, being in the company of soldiers who have at one time subordinated their own personal interests to the life-threatening responsibility of wearing the uniform, serving their country. Saying goodbye to family. Being in harm's way. Not knowing when, or if, you’re coming home. Veterans Day gives us all a chance to say thank you. To pause in our busy lives and recognize the sacrifice someone else has...

''Lenny's Laughs'' for Saturday By Lenny Santee, www.Chronwatch.com Saturday, November 09, 2002 ''Counting Sheep'' A shepherd was tending his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new Jeep Cherokee appeared out of a dust cloud, advanced toward him, and stopped. The driver, a 24-year-old young man wearing a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses, and a YSL tied, leaned out of the window and asked our shepherd, ''If I can tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?'' The shepherd looked at the young guy, then at his peacefully grazing...

Election Results By Leo Lacayo, Chronwatch.com Friday, November 08, 2002 CHRISTOPHER L. BOWMAN: Writing for LEO LACAYO, who is undergoing emergency oral surgery. Member Elect of the San Francisco City and County Republican Party With currently 97% of the precincts statewide reporting (most of the remaining 3% from Orange County with as many as a million absentees and provisional ballots still being counted, Bill Simon is 356,000 votes behind Gray Davis -- 47.1% to 42.0%. McPherson is behind 49.8% to 41.4%, Olbert is behind 46.6% to 41.9%. McClintock is behind by only one point -- 45.7% to 44.7%, Conlon is...

Nancy Pelosi: Great for the GOP! By Leo Lacayo www.Chronwatch.com Saturday, November 09, 2002 Nancy Pelosi, 62-year-old congresswoman from California, is expected to win the Democratic position of minority leader of House of Representatives, now that Rep. Martin Frost of Texas has withdrawn from the race. Having Pelosi in that position is the best news ever for the GOP and for the people of the United States of America. Pelosi's only in the Congress because she is the favored icon of the far-left wing of the Democratic Party in San Francisco, where voters are so un-American they actually have demonstrations...

Election Losers, Whiners, and Winners By Roger Burdick www.Chronwatch.com Friday, November 08, 2002 The biggest losers in the latest election are the citizens of California. In his one term, Gray Davis took a two-billion-dollar surplus and turned it into a 50-billion-dollar deficit. That will grow to over a 100-billion-dollar deficit by the end of his next term. Why would anyone in his or her right (or left) mind vote for this guy? I repeat: ''The citizens of California are the biggest losers in this year’s election.'' Senator Jim Jeffords of Vermont is certainly a loser. It's going to be fun...

The Courage to Go It Alone? By the Black Shadow www.Chronwatch.com What is the definition of insanity? Trying the same approach multiple times and expecting a different result. While the San Francisco Chronicle's editorial today praises Bush for hand-wringing over North Korea, it skips out on assigning any blame to the Clinton Administration's appeasement approach for the past decade towards the rogue state. Worse, the Chron doesn't have the temerity to call itself wrong when it blasted Bush for assigning North Korea among the ''axis of evil'' last year in a State of the Union address. The SF Chron howled...

Peace Is a Mental Construct By Cinnamon Stillwell Friday, October 18, 2002 With the Bay Area awash in anti-war rallies, it seemed a good time to address that so illusive of concepts and the stated goal of the pacifists: peace. The problem is, peace doesn’t really exist. In fact, it’s never prevailed throughout the history of humankind. When it has briefly made an appearance, it’s because societies have had to fight off aggressors to achieve it. The truth is, peace is nothing more than a mental construct, adopted by the delusional left to justify its relentless anti-Americanism. Perhaps the peaceniks...

A Dissident Theory Regarding Bali By Dr. Steven Plaut Sunday, October 20, 2002 I ordinarily avoid making predictions about the future. After all, I am an economist, and so belong to a profession that correctly predicted nine out of the past four recessions, and otherwise cannot predict next week's exchange rate. Nevertheless I am going to go out on a limb here and hope I will not regret it. I predict that when the perpetrators of the Bali atrocity get caught, it will turn out they were NOT targeting the tourists, Australians, or the others, at all. So whom were...

Shocking Personal Story from a Student at Santa Monica High Posted by the ChronWatch Founder, Jim Sparkman Tuesday, October 15, 2002 ChronWatch received this amazing letter from a student at Santa Monica High. The events happened last year and early this year. It speaks for itself: To whom it may concern: My name is Christopher Moritz and I am a senior at Santa Monica High School in California. For the last four years I have endured the stigma of being an outspoken conservative Republican in a sea of liberalism. This is my story. As we are all well aware, the...

Muslims Bali-hoo Their Idea of Peace By Marc J. Rauch Tuesday, October 15, 2002 At first, the news reports this past Saturday said that just a handful of people were victims of terrorist bombings in Bali, Indonesia. By Sunday night, the death toll was up to 188, with another 300 people injured. The explosions took place in a night life area that is typically frequented by tourists and vacationers. Indonesia is a Muslim country, the most populous Muslim country. It’s not near Israel or the United States. It’s not run by Jews or Americans. There are no 'illegal' Jewish settlements,...

Follow-Up to the Appearance on Malanie Morgan's Show By Patrick Mallon Tuesday, October 15, 2002 Patrick Mallon provides ChronWatch with a follow-up on his appearance yesterday morning with Melanie Morgan on KSFO-560: Melanie Morgan, Brian Sussman, and Officer Vic were great hosts and started off the show immediately by talking about ChronWatch. I said that Jim Sparkman has given a multitude of writers opportunities to address the leftist Chronicle, as well as issues of the day. Melanie's blood started to boil when I brought up the secret ''withholding'' law Gray Davis signed on September 11 (AB 2065). She couldn't believe...

Read This and Immediately Lose Weight By Leo Lacayo Friday, October 11, 2002 The U.S. Postal Service just delivered my City and County of San Francisco Voter Information Pamphlet and Sample Ballot, and if you think the name is long, just check out your edition. Skip the book (for starters my name is listed nine times so that means I must know more than you about the issues or that I spent more money putting my name in there than you did). So don't waste your time, here are my recommendations for statewide office. The election of this short list...

Nobel Prize Awarded to "Goobers" By Dr. Steven Plaut Saturday, October 12, 2002 In an era when Yassir Arafat and Shimon Peres hold Nobel Peace Prizes, I suppose none of us should find it too surprising that Jimmy Carter gets awarded one. Jimmy Carter, Mister Peanut from Plains, Georgia, was without a doubt the worst American president in the post-World War II era, and possibly the very worst president ever. True, Clinton would be a major contender, but Clinton will be remembered for his sneaky sleaze, underhandedness, and sly dishonesty, whereas Carter will be remembered for his disgracing America, for...

Recipe for Voting in San Francisco By Leo Lacayo Friday, October 11, 2002 Okay, folks, the abbreviated version: H-N-P-Q-R and BB are YES votes Be sure to vote NO on: A-B-C-D-E-F-G-I-J-K-L-M-O Oh my my! Don't even try to read that phone-book sized ''pamphlet'' put together by the most inept Department of Elections in the state. So, here are my instant recommendations for San Francisco Voters. Prop A - Water Bonds---NO ! STEALS your...

True confession: I am a loyal reader of two Chronicle features, Letters to the Editor, and Corrections. While Letters occasionally unveils a fresh perspective, the corrections box sorts out those bread-and-butter details that are good to know. (Was that Slovakia or Slovenia? And did they actually send troops into war, or just mention the possibility?) Wednesday’s Corrections though did more than pick the lint from day-old sports and political columns. There was a little libel to fix. Unfortunately, the way it was done left me wondering what the word “corrections” means to the Chronicle. For instead of erasing the false...

Liberals are always accusing conservatives of being racists, but I think it’s the other way around. Liberals are the ones who are obsessed with race. That’s why they’re always calling attention to it and turning it into an issue, even when it has no bearing at all on the subject at hand. When it comes to Secretary Colin Powell, they just can’t seem to see past his skin color. Powell has become a favorite target of liberals and in particular black liberals, solely because of his race. During a radio interview on Tuesday, Harry Belafonte decided it was his turn...

New Editor Hired to "Turnaround the Chronicle" Posted by the ChronWatch Editor, Jim Sparkman Friday, September 20, 2002 Thanks to Bob Holmgren for passing on an article from Philadelphia's citypaper.net. In the article we hear the real reasons for hiring 'Rosey' as the Chronicle's new managing editor. It will come as no surprise to CW readers to learn that the "powers that be" want the Chron "to be better, a helluva lot better." It's of some comfort to realize that our comments about the quality of the paper have been endorsed by the Hearst management. Note the comment about the...

Announcing,"Operation Enduring Support": Oct. 6 - USS Hornet By the ChronWatch Editor, Jim Sparkman Friday, September 20, 2002 We recently received this notice by e-mail, which we are going to put on the ChronWatch calendar. However, the event deserves our full attention, so we are also displaying it as a special item here on ChronWatch. Simon Supporters: Dave Katz, newly elected to the SF Republican Central Committee, is co-organizer for an event we should all try to attend. "Operation Enduring Support" on October 6 between 12 and 5 p.m. will take place on the deck of the USS Hornet. The...

Davis Is Destroying California by the Numbers--and Having Fun with You Too! By Leo Lacayo Saturday, September 21, 2002 The San Francisco Chronicle just can't bring itself to give the people of California the bad news all at once, but the red ink is just so abundant that they are no longer able to hide it. While Simon continues to show favorably in the polls, Gray Davis shows up with negative ratings across the board in excess of 50 %. Under Gray Davis, California has gone from the fifth largest economy in the world, to sixth--behind France! If Davis is...

Lead Editorial "Our Pathetic Spy Game" Is Pathetic By the ChronWatch Editor, Jim Sparkman Saturday, September 21, 2002 The editors of the Chronicle keep putting stuff in their lead editorials that just has to be answered. The Friday editorial on the failures of our intelligence agencies is so typical of the liberal mind-set. Liberals--and that includes the Chron--put up every roadblock they can dream up for the U.S. intelligence activities: racial profiling, protecting civil liberties, Ashcroft is "all bad," protection of minority groups through their victimology reporting, etc. Note the editorial's words: SINCE THE mid-1990s, Osama bin Laden lurked on...

Rob Morse and Observing 9-11 By Cinnamon Stillwell Friday, September 13, 2002 Rob Morse's ill-conceived column, “Top 10 better things to do today," 9/11/02, was in very bad taste, to say the least. Morse suggested that rather than watching the television coverage on 9/11 or attending commemorations, people should instead indulge themselves. As the rest of the nation mourned, Morse instructed his readers to “Make love,” “Go to the movies,” “Trade in your SUV,” or if all else fails, “Have a drink.” Apparently, he (and countless others, according to the letters page) expected our television media to commemorate that tragic...

Simon/Davis: If the Chron doesn't like the news, they make-up their own By the Reality Chick Wednesday, September 11, 2002 You gotta hand it to the headline writers at the San Francisco Chronicle. If they don’t like the news, they make some of their own. The big news last Thursday was the poll numbers that surprised everyone. Despite the daily one-two punches inflicted by Davis’ attack ads and a media mindset that is drawn to Simon scandals like flies to cowpies, the left-leaning Field Poll showed Simon climbing to within 7 points of Davis. Imagine the headlines meeting inside Comical...
