But the governor touts a new national survey that ranks California first in the cultivation of fast-growing firms.
LOS ANGELES -- Republican Bill Simon on Tuesday blasted Gov. Gray Davis as "no friend of small business," while the Democratic governor touted a new survey that found California leads the nation in cultivating fast-growing businesses.

"If Gray Davis thought he had a record to be proud of," Simon said, "he'd be here today. The only language Gray Davis understands is money. He'll buy time on Spanish-language television, but he won't give his own time."

There was a recent article in the WSJ, I believe that showed that California was the worse state to do business in out of the 50.

There are a few things that make the California business climate great:
- People really love working in a comfortable climate instead of one with tiresome winters and what-not. Government can get away with a lot when people love living where they do and don't want to leave.
- Universities such as Stanford (private) and Berkeley (public) contribute to a culture where business and the university work to their mutual advantage. Yahoo, for instance, started as two people's hobby on a Stanford server. Yes, the UC system is government funded, but that's not something Davis has actively participated in.
- A critical mass of venture capitalists and other funding sources started up near the universities, again creating wonderful synergies.
You will note how little this has to do with the governor's actions during his term. As far as I can tell, his impact has been minimal to none.

The Davis campaign has been critical of Bush administration officials for what it says is campaigning for Simon on taxpayer time. Oh, that's rich. Davis had no problems with appearing with Al Gore in 2000 (while Davis was Governor!), accepting Hillary's help in 2002, and having Clinton himself come out for him in 1998. Such a liberal hypocrite!

Are you saying that Republican administrations had set the stage for California's growth and Davi$ has been riding their wave of prosperity, so to speak?
That IS, until GraYouT ran the board into the sand thru his Energy Crisis mishandling... And SUBSEQUENT Budget Debacle!
WE the People in California CAN'T Stand 4 More Years of Gross Inept Financial Mangement and Continuous Campaign Fund-Raising at the Expense of the State he was elected to serve, not enslave and turn over to the socialist ideologues in the state Capitol and bureaucracy.
Mangement=Management=Manglement .. Pick 1 ;-)
