Palin Plays Hard to Get ("She's not playing by our rules!")
Time Magazine ^ | May 29, 2011 | Jay Newton-Smell

Almost any politician in America follows tried and true patterns when dealing with the media. They alert the media of an upcoming event, the media shows up, photos are taken, cameras roll. Sometimes questions follow. And then the media goes home. But not Sarah Palin.

Palin alerted the media of the first stop on her northeastern road trip: Rolling Thunder. But after some event organizers expressed displeasure at her attendance on Friday, her staff refused to comment about the appearance, and some reporters wondered if she’d even go. No time was given – the event lasted from 7am to 5pm. No venue was given – Rolling Thunder’s course goes for more than five miles from Arlington cemetery around the National Mall. The annual charity for prisoners of war and missing in action draws a quarter of a million bikes and an estimated 900,000 participants – good luck finding the Palin family.

Amazingly, some media did (bravo, AP’s Phil Elliott), though the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee mostly refused to answer questions. She signed jackets and hats, shook hands and admired tattoos. She rode on the back of her middle daughter, Willow’s Harley. Husband Todd rode with their youngest daughter Piper and their eldest daughter Bristol rode separately, according to media reports. Palin had “rolling justice” written in smeared ink on one hand and a George W. Bush sticker on her bike reading, “Miss me?” “There’s no better way to see D.C. than on the back of a Harley! My family may be used to snowmachines more so than motorcycles,” Palin wrote on her political action committee’s website. “But whether you’re riding the open road or the frozen tundra, you’re celebrating a free spirit. What could be more American than that?”(continued)

I heard you saying that Governor Palin took away that press coverage. Was that her fault? She was INVITED there by one of Rolling Thunder’s board members, welcomed by their executive director and is a Gold Star mother herself. And I hear a lot of criticism from people who couldn’t be bothered (like EVERY Romney since they got here) to don a uniform. You can call it hyper-defensive or anything you like.

HA!

Very few politicians could have fit into that event today.

Did you see West? That was so cool.

RE :"And once she announces that she’s running everyone will feel like they ARE taking her to the prom."

And you really think that will happen? Maybe she's already decided she's not going..

I thank you for your service, and thank you for your support of Sarah Palin and her family, but perhaps you’re misreading in this case?

The media coverage of the event has decreased over the years. I had high hopes Palin would change that - otherwise what was the point, to draw attention to herself? - don’t think so. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. I saw no coverage of this event that wasn’t distracted with her presence. I wish she had been invited not just to ride, but to speak, and address the POW cause like only she can.

“They are covering it all over the world because of Sarah.”

Are they explaining what the ride is about?

Are they addressing the funding and policy issues so important to Rolling Thunder?

Has anyone mentioned the Missing in Action statistics?

Sarah Louise Palin

Born February 11, 1964 in Sandpoint, ID (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)

Parents were
Charles R Heath, born in ID
Sarah Sheeran, born in WI

Both parents were US Citizens at the time of her birth (Meets the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)

Sarah Palin is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.

Your logic makes no sense....if Sarah is so called playing games and “pull the rug out” with supporters and many people for attention and is not running after all the new news that came out the past 5 days that indicates a serious look into running then whatever support or potential support she has in the far future would collapse and diminish in anger and disappointed people.

Maybe. But, imagine what the coverage, or lack there of, would have been had Gov Palin not attended?

While it's important that Obama finally managed to get to Joplin after his most recent vacation, I saw almost no coverage of his visit today. But, I saw lots of coverage of Palin at Rolling Thunder. Net net, I think the Palin attendance was a plus.

Something else which strikes me. Why hasn't Obama or any other high ranking Democrat attended this demonstration? Or, have they and I missed it?

“Cool man. I love how you slip in the number one lefty talking point regarding Sarah Palin yesterday.”

Yawn. Seriously. If someone doesn’t support Sarah 110% that means they’re all Lefty talking points? Let’s not go the way of the Ron Paul zombies. Are you threatened by anything less than fawning rose colored glasses?

I’m countering the Lefty talking point, and saying, since there was no validity to it, I had more expectations. Sorry, but “she stuck it to the media, she isn’t playing by their rules” is a bit patronizing of her abilities, and of her message.

...."The frustration and time spent looking for Palin, only to have her say next to nothing, is driving the press wild. Even if it yields few stories, Palin still controls her own message by blogging the trip herself, and forcing everyone to check her website to see what she’s saying and where she’s going."....... Like flies to honey...

Palin indeed moves about at will...Her's!

LoL....gotta love it!

So, let me get this straight. It was basically a photo-op for Sarah then right? Funny but the exact same garbage is being spewed over at DU.

Fox cut away from Rolling Thunder coverage just as the riders arrived in the mall to show the service Obama attended in Joplin, complete with a butch tone deaf female vocalist representing our military.

Obama’s talent for coincidentally bumping Palin, Beck, or Trump coverage sure is amazing, isn’t it? Would that have happened if Palin didn’t attend a 3pm rally? Who knows.

The event is pretty bipartisan, by the way.
