Does anyone know the deadlines for candidates to announce so they will be on the primary ballots in the early states?
I heard someone on the radio say it was Oct. 8 for one of the early primaries.
I could maybe see Palin missing Iowa and New Hamshire, but she'd have to be on the South Carolina ballot to have any hope of winning the nomination.
Having read her book and seen “The Unforgiven,” I doubt she will ever run.
Didn’t Reagan announce in November?
Interesting look into the mind of a believer. Nothing for or against Palin but her supporters fascinate me.
No way she can miss Iowa. Iowa is the race to be the anti-Romney and if Romney wins Iowa, there is no race... it’s over.
Yup. I would prefer that SP announce next summer to piss of the lib media. Just looking at Obidiot’s pictures shows he’s tired and doesn’t want to do this election thing for another year...
Yes, Reagan announced in Nov, but the primaries were also held later in the year three decades ago.
There is an actual legal deadline in each state that you must meet if your name is going to be on the ballot. I just don’t know what that currently is.
Like I said, I heard on the radio that for one of the early states it is Oct 8, 2011. I don’t know if this is accurate, but there is a legal ballot deadline of some type for every state.
Obama wasn’t on the ballot at all in the Michigan primary.
I saw it in another thread. I think the earliest is New Hampshire in late October then FL and SC in the first week of November. She really doesn’t have to be on the New Hampshire ballot; in fact, it would be better if she isn’t because when the results come in with her losing to Myth by 40 points, the media barrage will bury her, like it did with Huck last go around.
Election rules say when THE CANDIDATE starts taking donations for their campaign, they must have filed their intention to run with FEC....there’s not any real deadline.
And they certainly have to have done that in order to get on the ballots. So I guess it depends on the deadlines for the state’s cut off dates to appear on their ballots!
Presidential candidates names have to be submitted for inclusion on the primary ballot in
Florida - Oct. 31
South Carolina Nov.1 [along with a $25,000 fee]
New Hampshire Nov. 18
Illinois - Dec. 5
It isnt inconceivable that somebody could get into the race as late as the first or second week in October and manage to get it all done, provided they knew what they were doing, said Matt Seyfang, a Democratic lawyer whos handled ballot-access and delegate issues for five presidential campaigns, including Bill Clintons 1992 effort which didnt get started until October 1991. But any later than that, he said, would probably be impossible.
Palin could run a non-traditional presidential campaign in all kinds of ways, eschewing the traditional structures of staff and organization in favor of her brash, seat-of-her-pants style. But she would still have to meet a complex web of state-by-state ballot access requirements to get into all the different primaries.
Regardless of how you want to run your campaign, if you have not complied with state ballot requirements, you cant be on the ballot, and if youre not on the ballot, you cant get delegates allocated to you, said Jason Torchinsky, an election lawyer who advised the campaigns of George W. Bush in 2004 and Rudy Giuliani in 2008, and is currently working with Rep. Thad McCotter.

In Florida the declaration to run must be made by October 31st.

I hope she makes up her mind soon.
November 1st, 2011 is deadline for filing to be on the ballot in the South Carolina primary. No signatures required. Filing fee is $35,000 (which includes a $10,000 late fee because the early filing date was May 3rd, 2011).
The legal deadline is the candidate has to quit their TV paid job first.
Whether she announces or not I’m guessing she’ll get a lot of write-in votes.
I believe S. Carolina and another State’s filing deadline for the primary is early October so she’ll need to jump in before then to ensure she has everything filed properly and for contingency in filing hold-ups.
In the past few elections, States have been moving up their filing deadlines and primary dates earlier and earlier.
