Rick Perry: Could it really have been that short lived?
The Commentator ^ | September 24, 2011

Posted on 09/25/2011 2:58:50 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

If you watched the Fox/Google debate that kicked off the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida this week, you'll know which video clip we're going to embed below. If you didn't, you're in for something of a treat.

Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, created waves when he entered the GOP race for the presidential nomination. His entry scared off other vultures who were circling, like Giuliani and Palin perhaps, and he robbed momentum from the now almost absent Michele Bachmann.

Tim Pawlenty, Jon Huntsman, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul all saw their own figures give way as the Governor of the Lone Star State threw his Stetson in the ring. Alas this honeymoon period was short lived for Perry. Latest performances and polling figures suggest he's coming crashing back down to earth like an old NASA satellite. His campaign team will be praying he doesn't break up on re-entry.

It's perfectly possible for Perry to completely derail at this point - in fact, it's almost likely. The Governor shows signs of reluctance or reticence when debating - many say his heart is simply not in it. Regardless of whether you think he has an emotional attachment to the campaign or to the office of the President of the United States, serious questions must be raised about whether he has the intellectual attachment:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

Of course let's not forget, he's still leading in the national polls and has only been in the race for six weeks. Nonetheless this isn't going to be an easy ride to victory for Perry as so many once thought. He'll really have to fight to stay on course.

Stay tuned to The Commentator for updates on the GOP race. It's getting better by the day.

“Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, created waves when he entered the GOP race for the presidential nomination. His entry scared off other vultures who were circling, like Giuliani and Palin perhaps...”

Idiotic statement. I dont know anything about perry other than he is texan and thats enough for me not to vote for him. But the idea that Palin is scared off by Perry is Idiotic. Palin allowed the field to clear itself without spending a dime. That is what I call discernment. A rare quality today, extinct among Political types, but we see it regularly in Palin.

I didn't see the "debate" but it does sound like Perry has made a mess of this issue. Having done searching on the status of the issue of in-state tuition for the children of illegals, I find that 11 states permit illegal immigrants to obtain in-state tuition. They are Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

Some of these states are surprising.

Still, we are where we are and the truth is someone will get the nomination and I do not find a perfect one among the bunch. This election is not going to turn on the issue of in-state tuition for illegals. We must get back to the economy. Who is the best on that issue?

Right now all this makes Romney the clear front runner. Is that what we want?

Stop with Romney and Perry. Our candidate is right there in front of us. It is Cain. He is honest non political in otherwords a breath of fresh air. He can and will beat Obama if only we could stop focusing on Perry Romney. The media is electing our candidate again!! Until we start screaming our heads off, He will not get air time. They are setting us up to lose again. They chose McCain. Never again. Start writing and emailing. Get him out front. I don’t want any more of these talking heads. I want someone who us going to fix the problems. Cain has a business model which is outstanding. You can see his solutions aren’t poltical. He honestly has a plan that will work. Get him out front and watch him take off. Cain/Rubio. Oh yes we can!!!!

Cain/Rubio IMHO are UNBEATABLE. Both come from humble beginnings. Both have little to no baggage. Both are amazingly articulate honest focused and speak from their heart. We have got to stop the MSM train of Romney Perry. All Cain needs is face time and money. Heaven equals an Obama Cain debate. Can you imagine a debate between Biden and Rubio ?

True enough.

Of course, a couple hundred million Americans also meet that Constitutional test.

If you are right, I can live with this. I have reservations about Cain because of his health and lack of experience but I agree he is a good man.

Maybe the Republican machine can stop elevating every flaky sunbelt governor into a potential presidential candidate. just a thought... These charlatans aren't delivered to the scene on the shoulders of populists, word comes down from on high that Gov. Whatever is now the GOP front runner.

The election is barely a year away and we don't even have a serious candidate on the stage or in the wings and precious time is being wasted on these flameouts.

Yes, because we WON’T accept another open-border RINO!

http://governor.state.tx.us/news/speech/10688/

“Today we begin a new dialogue about our shared future, a future of promising potential if we work together to solve the challenges we both face. It is fitting that we convene this summit where the great, meandering river known as the Rio Grande – or the Rio Bravo – forms the long border between Texas and Mexico. In years past, that famed body of water has been seen by many as a dividing point, If you were to walk along its banks and look to the other side, based on the stereotypes of the past, you would think you were seeing things a million miles away, instead of a stone’s throw away. But I am here today to say that while we have honest differences, there is more that unites us than divides us. The Rio Grande does not separate two nations, it joins two peoples. Mexico and the United States have a shared history, and a common future. And it is along this border where we will either fail or succeed in addressing the education, health care and transportation needs of our two peoples.”

It is simple for me ... immigration is the third rail, touch it one way you get energy, touch it the other way you instantly die! He touched on the immigration problem the wrong way ... lost my vote instantly.

“It you can’t stand the heat...get out of the kitchen.”

Harry Truman

Perry entered with fanfare and stomped on Bachmann in the process by the timing of his announcement. Now I am not a Bachmann fanatic, but it was NOT a classly thing to do. Also, it showed an arrogant streak. Time for him to bow out. I hope Sarah will now enter.

As a Palin backer but someone who is still closely examing all candidates, I’d give Perry a chance before ditching him. Despite his regrettable comments concerning immigration. But he’ll have to give one heck of a performance to regain his footing after the three poor performances so far. I’ve not been able to watch any of the debates since I’ve either been working or away from the tv. I need more evidence to make a judgment. Too early yet.

I can’t believe what I am hearing and reading. After all of the lies. deceiving, stupid statements, bad political calls coming from all the other candidates plus the idiots in the white house now, we are going to write off Perry for being honest?

I agree. The obama administration is working behind the scenes on gun control. This scares me. Perry's strong support of Second Amendment rights trumps just about everything else for me. If Romney won the nomination by default, I wouldn't trust him on this issue.

I’ve tried to find out more concerning Perry’s stance on immigration ....other than what people on this forum say it is. I couldn’t find anything where he said he supports unlimited, illegal immigration. He does support measures, like the tuition for children, that appear to be better than letting the kids run around loose. My two big issues are national security and economics. Immigration certainly falls into the category of national security. Perry had better be able to explain himself well enough to satisfy Tea Party-type conservatives. Calling them heartless was not very smart to say the least.

I don’t understand how this inarticulate, confused and uneducated man has garnered so much support.

I agree. I'm still in the Perry camp (though with less enthusiasm than before). Fortunately, he made his missteps early. There's a lot of time for him to refocus his message, clarify some uncomfortable statements he's made and sharpen his debating skills. It's not over for him by a long shot.

Of course, he could do the opposite, continue to crash and burn. The name 'Rudy Giuliani' comes to mind...

Of all of them, I like Cain and Gingrich the best; Herman Cain has the best integrity and honesty and credibility and Gingrich has the greatest depth of political experience and ideas.

Just wish either one had led a rifle company at some point of their lives. I am a Vietnam veteran and both men are of my generation. At least Mr. Cain served in the Navy as a civilian ballistician.

Serving while our country was at war would have made them appreciate the price of freedom to a greater depth and serve them well as President.

Nonetheless, I'm sending some cash to the Cain and Gingrich campaigns.

How is Romney ineligible? He was born in the US to US citizen parents, albeit his father was born in Mexico to US citizen parents.

One could argue that George Romney was ineligible, but not Mitt. I don’t remember that argument ever being brought up about George, however.
