The Political Backstory in Ferguson
Newsweek ^ | September 3, 2014 | Pema Levy

Four days before Michael Brown, an unarmed black teen, was shot dead by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, sparking nearly two weeks of protests, the black community there lost the most racially divisive election in recent memory.

On August 5, Democrats in St. Louis County headed to the polls to choose their nominee in November’s county executive race. On the primary ballot was 10-year incumbent Charlie Dooley, who is black, and his challenger, white county Councilman Steve Stenger.

When the votes were tallied, Stenger had won overwhelmingly, ousting the black incumbent by nearly the same margin (66 percent to 30 percent) that white residents in St. Louis County outnumber African-Americans (70 percent to 24 percent). As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch noted Aug. 28, a map of the precinct results looks “almost identical to census maps of county demographics.”

Dooley’s vote tally aligned even more closely with the number of Democrats in the county who are black, about one-third. Pollster Titus Bond, whose firm polled the race, believes Dooley won about 70 percent of black voters and just 20 percent of white voters.

“Race absolutely made a difference,” said David Robertson, a political science professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Brown’s shooting death at the hands of a white police officer on August 9 highlighted not just the tragic death of one young man but also the systemic powerlessness of Ferguson’s black community....

Powerlessness? The black guy was a 10 year incumbent! So now it’s racist to fairly lose an election?

Obama had well over 90% of blacks vote for him. How is that not racist if this is?

Exactly, what a dumb article. The area with the same or maybe slightly more white demographics elected the guy in the first place. Why can’t they vote him out without someone writing an article insinuating about race?

...an unarmed black teen...

Any commentary that uses such a phrase isn't worth reading.

All this shows is a majority of black democrats are racists cause they overwhelmingly voted against a white Democrat.

Looks like the Democrat party has a problem with racism. This is why they gerrymander districts into all black cause they know blacks want blacks to represent them.

This is the not politically correct view the media hides.

"...sparking nearly two weeks of protests..."

Protests? Protests?

Maybe I should do some "protesting". I could use new shoes, a bigger TV, etc.

Instead, how about we call LOOTING what it is.

Double standard. Their side is expected to, and allowed to be racist. Our side is not. If you think everyone should be treated alike, and everyone should be held accountable for their actions, then you sir, are obviously a racist, who just doesn't get it. S/

WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE FERGUSON RIOTS ?

All this inflamatory reporting of confrontations between black youths and authority are ruthlessly designed to keeping the black segment of Obama’s political support riled up so that any thought of instituting a richly deserved impeachment proceeding goes nowhere.

We(US)are going to keep being bombarded with features centered on racial strife to achieve this because if the regime loses that tight reign on the black community it’s (pardon the pun)toast.

It’s been frequently commented here in FR’s that if the cop was a black the black sympathy and blacks basic sence of right and wrong would go to the cop. Instead of course it gets reported as it was in the Zimmerman case. That a criminal act was committed by a white symbol exerting authority over a black simply because he was black, hence a “victim”. When actually in both cases the “victim” was the perpetrator.Treyvon attacked Zimmerman, Brown attacked Wilson, and in both cases it was a fight over a gun. In which both lost.

The problem has been getting the political opposition to even recognize what the regime is up to and denouce it. There has been some movement towards this. Laura Ingraham actually said it, Levin,Limbaugh, and some of the others tap dance around it. But black conservative won’t even touch it.

Carson comes close to siding with the regime because he seems to accept the propaganda reports about the two incidents. Doesn’t he realize that he’s defending criminal activity ? Or the effect this whole propaganda campaign is having on the black community where black youths think they’re justified on attacking happless, whites, hispanics and asians just because of the color of their skin ?

Time they wake up!
