GOP Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) is going up with the first television ad of the 2016 presidential election this weekend, a 30-second spot touting his religious roots on local and national networks.
"Were it not for the transformative love of Jesus Christ, I would have been raised by a single mom without my father in the house," Cruz says in the opening lines of the ad, titled "Blessing." "God's blessing has been on America from the very beginning of this nation."
The Post's Katie Zezima reported on the ad buy Thursday, diving into the thinking behind Cruz's decision to air the spot on Easter weekend:
The Republican senator’s programming choice for the ads, along with the Easter weekend timing, underscore his commitment to wooing voters of faith. Cruz kicked off his presidential campaign at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., a Christian college founded by fundamentalist preacher Jerry Falwell. During campaign stops here in Iowa, Cruz has evoked God and reiterated his support for the controversial Indiana religious-freedom law that was signed last week and later amended."(continued)

Though not an Evangelical myself, I find Ted Cruz’s open upfront faith refreshing. This speaks volumes of what kind of President he would be if elected.

Thank you for that link. I hope and pray that God will deem us worthy of the leadership of Ted Cruz. We will have had 8 years of God’s judgement upon this nation by then. We desperately need someone who is a true Christian to lead us out of the wilderness.
Yes, “Cruz” does mean “Cross”. How perfect is that?!
No, it does not. It underscores his faith. Period. The same as when he talks about small government or illegal immigration or getting rid of Obamacare. What you talk about consistently, not just in selected areas, is what you have in your heart.
The media, meanwhile, think all politicians are Bildo Klintoon at Ron Brown's funeral pulling out that tear for the cameras on cue. Too many Republicans in this past election cycle lived up to that, but not Cruz. He's the genuine deal.
The elite don't realize that people are harking back to their Christian traditions because we see that the alternative is Muslim extremism abroad at out-of-control narcissists at home.

Cruz is hereby attempting to consolidate the Evangelical Wing of the Republican Party. His main competitor there is the Huckster, a very weak candidate on all other fronts. So, I think Cruz has a great likelihood of taking this Wing.
Cruz already has a large fraction of the Tea Party Wing, with Walker taking a portion too, of course.
Then, he should feed and consolidate the National Security Conservatives against the Iran deal, 0bama’s foreign policy failures generally, and with a Strong America message.
Libertarian Conservatives will be a bit harder, but if he can do well with some of them against their main desire for a Paul candidacy, he can hold off Rand.
What does that leave? The GOPe / Crony Capitalists. The stench of having to suck up to them is too great. I hope Cruz never does. Cruz can actually win Blue Dog Democrats by fighting against Crony Capitalists, correctly arguing the conservative position against Corporate Welfare.
Looks like good strategery to me!

And this is why the left is going nuts over Cruz. Knowing them I wouldn’t be suprised that they are using all this LGBTH stuff to turn the 20 something group away from Cruz.
