Republican Party chiefs are concerned that the sprawling size of the 2016 GOP field could compromise its chances to win the presidency.
"We're in a danger zone," Doug Gross, a top Republican establishment figure in Iowa, told The Washington Post. "When the party poobahs put this process together, they thought they could telescope this to get us a nominee who could appeal to a broad cross-section of people.
"What we've got instead is a confederation of a lot of candidates who aren't standing out and in order to stand out, you need to scream the loudest."
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was seen as the front-runner at the beginning of the year, but his recent stumbles on the question of the Iraq War has put his standing in question.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker also enjoyed a surge early in the year, ranking at the top of a number of polls, but his star has faded somewhat as other candidates have jumped into the race.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz enjoyed a bounce after his announcement in March, as did Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in April. And Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has consistently performed among the top contenders in the polls.
According to the Post, activists are enjoying the wide field of candidates, but party officials are already struggling with the practicalities of a crowded field....

Ya think? As usual they are going to screw it up.
THE GOP establishment doesn’t care if they lose to Hillary, so every Mickey Mouse Republitard will enter the race if it keeps a conservative out.
The GOP field is ALWAYS too big to succeed.
The one milquetoast, pantywaist, hand-wringing squish, JEB, will win the nomination handily, then get destroyed in the general election.
It’s in the script.
In a free market economy, more choices is always better than fewer choices and competition makes everyone better.
The democrats have the same number of choices as do the voters in Cuba and North Korea.
Well I got an idea: How about we ignore the ones who aren’t Republican? Jeb Bush is about as Republican as Nancy Pelosi.
Broad based candidate or other known as RHINO. We know their game.
Eliminate the candidates whose policies violate the core platform of the party. That’ll clear the field real quick.
Not that it will happen. They could care less about the platform or principle.
What’s likely going to happen is they will winnow the field based on who can sell their souls for the most money.
With a free pass for women and “minorities.”
They should tell Jen and Linda to go home then.
Here we go again with the usual doom and gloom from “our” side. Even in a big field like this the cream rises to the top and Cruz, Walker, Paul, and possibly Rubio will most likely be the final four. I don’t think Bush has a shot and either Paul or Rubio will get the GOPe’s backing when Jeb falters.
Yep!
Don’t they all? LOL
Should News-smax even be allowed to be posted here? After all the Klinton donations?
I’m starting to think that a big field helps Cruz....
Last in first out.
No doom and gloom here. The crowds Love Cruz! These are the voters. The establishment can wring their hands all they want to. Cruz is our next President!
Huh?
We will pick our own candidate this time! I hope...
Amen to that! I can’t vote for anymore losers like Bob Dole, McVain and Mittens. I want our next nominee to go over the heads of the media, the establishment, and appeal straight to the American people. That also means they’ll take the fight right to Shrillary, Fauxahontas, or whoever the Dems nominate, and shred them to pieces. No more milk toast, white gloves campaigns against the left anymore.
