Rand Paul is right: Cruz's career in the Senate is "done for." Once he leaves, he can become a full-time grafter.
Im not sure when it started, but at some point the Republican Party ceded the business of governance to the Democrats. Maybe it began with the Tea Party movement or Fox News or the larger conservative media-industrial complex I honestly dont know. But its clear now that the GOP is no longer a legitimate governing party. A party that allows rank neophytes like Herman Cain and Donald Trump and Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina to run for the highest office in the country has lost its way.
If you look at how the Republican Party operates today, its hard to avoid the conclusion that governing just isnt a priority or internal pressures within the party make it impossible. Instead, the GOP has become what I previously called a self-perpetuating hype machine for conservative political entrepreneurs. Particularly at the national level, Republican candidates and legislators (many of them, at least) show no interest in compromise or serious policymaking, which is what youd expect from a party of and for purists.
While the new GOP has been bad for the country, its been great for political celebrities, people looking to promote their personal brands. Ted Cruz is the most recent and obvious example of this approach to politics. Cruz has been a remarkably ineffective Senator. He has done nothing but bloviate and showboat on the Senate floor. Hes accomplished zero legislatively. His only practical contribution has been to obstruct and draw attention to his martyrdom (read: presidential) campaign.
Ted Cruz will never be elected president. If he manages to win the Republican nomination, hell lose in a landslide to a Democrat, whoever that happens to be....

Only the people of Texas can decide if Cruz is done in the Senate. And from what I hear they’re mighty pleased with him!
Unless the Almighty forgives America for its latest atrocities, Ted Cruz is likely a leader we don't deserve.
Regardless, once a democratic nation's survival depends upon a single person, it's fate is already sealed.
.
Ted should consider this an endorsement, too.
Illing ..if not capitalized allows the first letter of the name..to be read a tad more clearly.....in this given font.
illing...is the name...
how much goofier could it get!
Trump needs to tell the wacko marxist media to STFU! These people are totally insane.
The people of Texas have final say and I doubt they’re inclined to listen to Salon’s bulls#!+.
Yes, it was a play on words, doncha know? A distillation down to essence,so to speak.
If you take seriously what a writer from Salon says.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha..... thank you thank you. It was such a bland day. Thanks for the amusement reading this article and understanding just how far the derangement gangrene in progressive brains has progressed (pun :).
“Hes accomplished zero legislatively.”
The main job of the Republican Party nationally is to prevent further theft of the money of the productive class.
Just as with a policeman, preventing theft doesn’t make for exciting TV drama, but is an essential task in modern America.
I’d love to know who in the senate they think has been effective and gotten things done.
Whistling past the graveyard over at the Saloon.
Don’t the people of Texas have a say in him being their senator?
.
>> “Salon must really be worried about Cruz.” <<
.
Cruz is the only candidate that worries anyone on the Left.
Donald, Jeb, or Carly would tickle them to death.
.
You know. It’s getting so that you don’t even need to open the thread to know when a post is from Salon. All you need to do is read the title.
All I could think of when I got to rank... was Lord Foul
Neophytes running for President?
Trump, Fiorina, and Carson accomplished more in their lives prior to running than Obama did. “Neophytes” is never a term I could apply to the Republicans...in fact, not having fresh blood has been part of our “it’s my turn” list of candidates going back to Bob Dole.
This writer may have had other points....but I stopped reading after the neophyte comment. The guy is a moron.
