As a political scientist, I feel I owe you an apology. To say my discipline has been behind the curve this electoral season would be putting it too charitably. We havent missed one curve yet. Were speeding through all of thembackwards.
At the beginning of this years U.S. presidential campaign, we confidently assured you that the Trump phenomenon wouldnt last, that the Republican base was just having a little summer fling. We told you we knew how presidential primaries worked. Wed studied them for years, knew the incentives, the structural dynamics, the statistical patterns. Been there, analysed that.

Journos and academics live in a social and philosophical bubble. They do pretty much act to make sure outlanders don’t join their club, so their bubble remains pure.
They talk about normal people the way anthropologists talk about Amazonian tribesmen. They have no clue.
The term “political scientist” is one of N oxymorons associated with marshmallow university degrees.
And N is a very large number.
Our governing elite, and their media enablers and hangers-on, have all become totally out of touch with reality.
This article basically says “I’m sorry that my shallow and superficial and self-appointed intellectual approach produced such atrociously incorrect conclusions and predictions, but please allow me to again utilize my shallow and superficial approach to once again make predictions that I am sure you, the reader, will find valuable and insightful”.
