On the eve of the biggest debate of his life, Mike Pence just lost a big fight back at home
The Washington Post ^ | 10/4/2016 | Amber Phillips

Before he was Donald Trump's vice-presidential pick, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) took a politically popular, if legally questionable, stand: There would be no Syrian refugees resettled in his state, not after the attacks in Paris last fall carried out in part by Islamist terrorists who masqueraded as Syrian migrants.

On the day before the vice-presidential debate, his biggest moment as Trump's running mate, Pence's stand on Syrian refugees received a likely fatal blow: A federal appeals court ruled Monday that Pence has no legal authority to stop the resettlement of these refugees in Indiana.

It has to get there first. I’m hoping this SC thing is a foregone conclusion with Hillary defeated.

... resettling Syrian refugees amounted to “discrimination” and was based on “nightmare speculation....

It actually is based on events happening in Germany, France, England, practically all of Europe. And let’s not forget domestic terrorists here like the Tsarnov brothers, Eastern Europe refugees.

Actually this is a HUGE issue and the timing is perfect.

Now it will go to the supreme court.

And Pence can use it at the debate to say how important the next appointed supreme court is.

Do people WANT the federal government to force their state to take refugees?

Funny the courts don’t seem to hold the US government to its’ duty and the law to protect the borders but all of a sudden find the rule of law in this case.

Pence didn’t lose. Indiana and America lost with this decision.

The issue of an omniscient, all-powerful federal government was settled in 1865.
Federalism is dead.

ALSO, the experiences in Europe makes it an indisputable FACT that there are terrorists in the refugee pool. It is impossible to “vet” Muslim refugees adequately, utterly impossible. There will be terrorists, and no Governor should be forced by the courts to put his citizens at risk.

I often wonder who I despise more, The Media or the Federal Behemoth.

I knew the knives would be coming out for Pence.

I would use the "Bowl of Skittles" analogy, but I am legally prohibited by the Mars Corporation.

The Lefties and Media won't care if 4 year old girls get raped, no more than they care about Bill Clinton's Rape Victims. All just eggs to be smashed to make an Omelet.

This will help him in the national polls...

It will be a big item in the debate.

The issue of an omniscient, all-powerful federal government was settled in 1865. Federalism is dead.

That put federalism on life support with occasional squiggles on the brain activity chart. The plug was pulled and official death was recorded with the passing of the 17th Amendment.

Au contraire, mon vieux. Governors have armies.

Unless the Fed has the heuvos to actually bring military forces to back up the forced introduction of anyone into a state they can be convinced to settle elsewhere.

More Governors need to stand on their back legs to repel Obama's evil immigrants.

He may have lost a court case, but he won in the court of public opinion big time. Just be sure to remind Americans that the Administration wants to dump potential terrorists in your home state, too.

The issue of an omniscient, all-powerful federal government was settled in 1865.

Somehow Lincoln's death machine settled the issue morally and legally with 99.99% of the country.

With secession off the table forever for any state admitted to the US, states have only one hope: an amendment clarifying their rights.

True. However given the SC slapping down obama yesterday on immigration, we have a good chance.
