Schwarzenegger Announces Plans for Special Session, Names Chief of Staff

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger told legislators during his first official visit to the state Capitol Wednesday that he planned to call a special session the day after he is sworn into office.

Priorities for the session may include legislation recently signed by outgoing Gov. Gray Davis that grants driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants. Workers' compensation reform, political reform and budget issues are other possible topics, said spokesman Rob Stutzman.

Schwarzenegger reiterated his pledge to repeal the driver's license bill, saying it would not be subject to negotiation.

Schwarzenegger's aides expect him to be sworn in as governor Nov. 17, and the governor-elect said he would move quickly to start his administration off on a productive note.

"Action, action, action, action," Schwarzenegger said. "That's what people voted me into this office for. They wanted a governor that is filled with action - that performs and represents the people."

Schwarzenegger also named health care executive Patricia Clarey as chief of staff. Clarey, 50, served as deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Pete Wilson in the mid-1990s. Before that, she worked in Washington under Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Clarey's appointment requires no Senate confirmation and she will start work immediately, the Schwarzenegger transition team said.

South40, your last post is full of venom.

But you are the one who can't figure things out.

Arnold pledged to "rescind" (a meaningless word) licenses for illegal aliens. The referendum is THE ONLY WAY to stop the licenses for illegals, but you two seems unable to grasp this concept.

I understand just fine. But what does that change? Arnold was still elected and for good reason. And Tom lost. Get over it.

No, I don't trust you and you seem to fit well with South40 as I recall in your insults and attacks on McClintock supporters during the past two months. Class wasn't a part of your MO.

I merely repaid you in your own coin.

There is no such thing as an "Honest, Principled" McClintock supporter. If they were lying to no one else, they were lying to themselves.

And when 2004 rolls around, and the Rats have done nothing but obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, then a lot of allegedly "safe" Rat seats will be up for grabs.

What about Loretta Sanchez' seat? Is that Orange County seat in the "toss up" category?

And btw, what's B-1 Bob doing these days? I haven't seen him around much lately....

Thank you zbigreddogz, you make my point perfectly. The first three of have acted absolutely without class. What a disgusting and reprehensible statement. There is no such thing as an "honest, principled McClintock supporter". If the three of you would show one degree of graciousness in victory, there could be some forgetting of the harsh words said in the past. But alas, you seem incapable of any decency.

I'd suggest everyone go back to post 7 on this thread. The first insult came from south40. I hope for your sakes Arnold turns out to be a good governor. After your undying support for him, you may end up with egg on your faces.

He's speaking to the FReeper 'Rally Against Tyranny and Terror' in DC on Saturday.

Keynote speech, I do believe.

A referendum is the only way to go on the illegals' drivers license. Don't back down.

The libs hate Patricia Clarey. She has a record of a no nonsense person and can be the really bad cop as noted in this article.

Arnold needs someone to sniff out the bad left overs and then hatchet them out of Sacramento's new power circle that is coming to town. Patricia Clarey will do that swiftly and without hestitation.

The only safe seats in California are probably the perverts from San Francisco and the immediate bay area like Marin County, Berkley/Oakland and San Jose.

The first insult?! Is that what's bothering you?

So your argument, other than an undying persistence (and hope) that Arnold will fail is that I made the “first insult” aimed at you poor Tom supporters even though Arnold won? You need to get a clue. There is a very real effort being made here by the TomBot clan to harangue Arnold voters; you’re even part of it. If you don’t like the “insults” I suggest you have a talk with your own and quit making a fool of yourself.

It’s your call.

Wow, that original post was dry -- remember, we can't hear your inflection.

I try to be serioussly joyless, joylessly serios is too depressing.

And we'll see who's right.

We already have chump; btw, say hello to Tom this Sunday. All you church members up there in Elk Grove really thought you had a chance, didn't you? One day you'll learn that SoCal has all the power in this state, and always has since around 1915.

Oh please! For one thing, you are warping the context, but even forgetting that, if I had $0.5 for every time I got called a spineless rat sellout by a McClintock supporter, I'd be getting a whole lot more of those "Tax cuts for the rich" the democraps keep blabbing about.
