I probably should not be saying this, but for Gray Davis, and the Democrats running the state government, the worse this fire is, the less heat will be on them over the coming year. Gray is gone, but for those remaining, there will be less heat on them, as they use the fire for an excuse not to cut spending. They will tell Arnold that the Emergency that he stated has come to pass, and that taxes MUST be increased. If he doesnt(and he wont) he will be blamed for all of the fallout from the fire. I would not be expecting Davis and his cronies to do the right thing about the fire, they have already proven that they would sell out national security to stay in office.

Am I correct that all the fires are south of Carlsbad, and that Carlsbad is unaffected?

The wind has switched pushing uphill, last pictures for those that don't have them are ominous. It looks like they may lose the battle they have been waging all day at the Rim Of The World Hwy 18.........It really looks bad.

Easier reading :)

Neutral flow today will become stronger onshore flow wed as a big low pressure trough moves down the coast. Southwest winds will increase especially in the mtns and deserts. This will help push out the smoke from the populated areas. The winds will also push fires up mtn slopes. Although relative humidity will increase by thu...the winds late wed and thu will create major problems for controlling fires especially in the san bernardino mtns where a sizable population is living in a forest of dead trees

Carlsbad is right on the coast and to date no endangering fires in its vicinity.

The Julian folks are going to Borrego - probably safer there.

Nope. I haven't looked. I've got KNBC/KCBS/KABC/KTTV via DirecTV.

I know that MSNBC had been running a live feed, but I'm not sure of anything right now.

I live in Carlsbad, and there are no fires anywhere near here. There was a small area off the 5 freeway between Encinitas and Leucadia offramps, to the west on fire, brush mostly, from a car dragging a muffler and causing sparks to light the blaze. It's almost out.

We're quite a ways from any of the other fires, so far.
