We live in Rancho Penasquitos. About 8 - 10 miles from Scripps Ranch. Across a little valley. so, a whole lot of houses had to burn before it got to us.

I know, my daughter has thought of that. They rent out hundreds, though. So did Marin County, I think.

I would love it if Arnold's first act as Governor would be to abolish all the idiot environmental laws and return common sense to the people. I'd love to hear him tell the citizens to clear deadwood in the forests and cut down whatever bushes you want on your own property.

FROM YOUR LIPS TO GOD'S EARS...Please!!

If you're interested,a nice saw sharpener is made to work with a mototool. They're inexpensive, quick and easy to use.I wouldn't be without one.

I imagine a lot of saws are going to be needed shortly.

I haven't either. Last I saw were flames at Running Springs and then the talk turned to other places.

10/28/2003 - SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- Airmen are helping combat the wildfires raging in California, officials said Oct. 28.

Two C-130 Hercules equipped with modular airborne firefighting systems began operations Oct. 27, and more will follow. The system is a self-contained, 3,000-gallon aerial fluid dispersal system that fits in the back of a C-130.

Crews from California Air National Guard’s 146th Airlift Wing began flying MAFFS missions over the Simi Fire in the southern part of the state. They have dropped more than 29,000 gallons of retardant on the fire.

Aircrews from the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Wing at Colorado Springs, Colo., are also flying missions.

Pilots from the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Air Wing and the North Carolina Guard's 145th Air Wing are on their way to the region with four more of the modular systems.

The fires, stretching from the Mexican border to the northern suburbs of Los Angeles, have destroyed more than 830 homes and burned out more than 500,000 acres. California officials said the fires are responsible for at least 15 deaths.

President George W. Bush declared the counties of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino and Ventura federal disaster areas.

Re: The FR Radio promo post on this thread...I understand how you could have taken this the way you did, given your personal experience in this situation. I also believe that BobJ didn't plunge forward in blatant disregard of the feelings of those in a similar position.

I do not know anyone whose home is/has been endangered in this perilous circumstance, but I certainly have been seeking as much information as possible. If indeed the fires were to be a central topic in this FR radio broadcast, I would myself not have thought it untoward to point people to a proprietary online source of discussion on the subject. Perhaps that was BobJ's intent.

Mohave and other desert dwellers will be able to relate to this... here in the upper Antelope Valley on any given night, I can see a billion stars straigt up, and lots of lights off in the distance -- some as far away as 20 or 30 miles. Tonight, there is ZERO long range visibility. No Palmdale lights, no Hesperia/Phelan twinkling, no Lake Los Angeles. It's as black as tar... like drifting in outer space or something.
