*laaaugh* The irony is that I work at a Native American store - and I /still/ don't know anyone who can do a raindance...

I know how to do one - I'll do one this morning...

Good morning everyone...

I'm watching the new pictures on KNBC/KCBS/KABC/KTTV.

It looks like the Lake Arrowhead area is the roughest spot this morning. Apparently the fire has jumped over the 18 and is moving up the mountain in that area as the winds increase.

Do 'long distance' rain dances work? Or will you get rain in the Puget Sound area instead? :-)

Don't do that! I tried down here and ended up with a flooded yard!

Make sure your aim is accurate. If you hit SE PA, the animals will start to walk in pairs!

KNBC is showing the flames that are within 100 yards of the Rim of the World High School near State Highway 18. Firefighters in that area are lined up in front of that school and making a stand there, but it doesn't look good at all.

Flames are now just 50 yards from the backside of Rim of the World High School, and going uphill, which allows the fire to travel faster. About to hit the sports fields in the back, the treeline is literally on top of that section of the school, so it is extremely dangerous for fire fighters there.

Any updates on Arrowhead? The fire 50 yds from the high school 15 minutes ago? Anything new?

Good Morning!

Looks like Lake Arrowhead/Blue Jay are going to be safe according to what is being shown on KTLA from their helicopter. The firemen have set backfires to keep the fire on the downside of 18. So far the wind is cooperating. The fire is right below Rim of the World High School but the backfires seem to be working. Winds blowing to the south away from Lake Arrowhead.

The KNBC chopper is showing the same pictures; that area looks like the fire may spare the high school. But there are other areas that look really bad.

According to KNBC's reporter in San Diego, the area of that large fire is actually larger than the land area of the city of Los Angeles - more than 450 square miles.

Lived about 4 miles south of the path of that tornado that stayed on the ground for miles and was actually over an F-5 at two points in the Moore area north of where I lived. Had only been in the area a short time when it hit and we were watching it on TV as the tornado hit each spot on the map at the time they said when I realized it was right across the river from us but it went north into the knee of the river at Moore. It was hard to fathom that kind of windspeed. Taught me a lesson to be prepared and when they say move to below ground or get out of the path -- I am listening now!

It was unbelieveable devastation and some people that were hit and rebuilt were hit again last spring.

Lived in Yucaipa and remember the ash from several fires in the mountains behind but nothing compared to this fire -- not even close.

I'm a "Native American", too; I was born in the USA.

If you want a rain dance, what you need to find is an Indian.
