Sorry, but I didn't watch LKL interview so I don't know. However, I am looking for more recent articles of interviews with Felos to see if he has mentioned it.

Secretary sues over scholars' fracas at USF
By JAMES HARPER

St. Petersburg Times Staff Writer

February 4, 1994

TAMPA - A secretary at the University of South Florida who says she was injured during a faculty fracas just before Christmas filed a civil suit Thursday against one of the professors involved.

Jay Wolfson, a USF professor and member of the Hillsborough County Hospital Authority, threatened secretary Yolanda Santos, grabbed her and jumped on her back - all in a struggle over Santos' personal tape recorder, the suit charges.

"This is something one would expect to read about in grade school," said Santos' attorney, Steve Yerrid. "It's ironic in a place of higher learning that the very basics we learn as children were cast aside."

"We're comfortable that Dr. Wolfson did nothing inappropriate that day," said Tracy Sheehan, one of the lawyers representing him.

Santos' story is nothing but "a fabrication" designed to fuel a bitter faculty turf war at USF, she said.

The suit claims that Wolfson's actions amounted to assault and battery, false imprisonment and negligence and asks for $300,000 in punitive damages.

State prosecutors and USF officials are still investigating the Dec. 17 incident, which occurred at a faculty meeting in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the College of Public Health.

Details of the incident have been sketchy.

Department chairman James Studnicki, who along with Santos filed a criminal complaint, has declined to speak with reporters about it. Wolfson and interim public health dean John Skinner, who were both at the meeting, have said there was a lot of yelling that day, but nothing violent.

Santos' lawsuit offers different version of events. The meeting, which Santos was there to record, began with an argument between Studnicki and Wolfson. When Studnicki tried to adjourn the meeting and asked Santos to leave with him, Wolfson grabbed her by the arm and thrust her back into her chair, the suit says. Santos said she was frightened by Wolfson's yelling and threats.

A few moments later, Studnicki again asked Santos to leave the room and to take her tape recorder with her. When Santos reached for the recorder, Wolfson "jumped on her back and reached over her in an effort of wrestle the records from her possession," the suit says. "As a result of (Wolfson's) unexpected attack, (Santos) was violently pushed headfirst into the chair upon which the recorder had been resting and as a result sustained personal injuries."

The Provost Office has asked three professors to decide whether faculty rules were broken.

"whomever posts it should use the "article" area to link and summarize updates and information from the prior day(s), or a cumulative list of events in chrono order by date--like a timeline of events. It would make a handy quick reference."

That is basically what I was thinking too. And at the beginning of each one, have a link back to the previous thread so as not to repeat all the links every time.

I am willing to do it part of the time, but wouldn't mind haivng one or two others to alternate. We could set it up so that we are using the same standard format on all threads so that it isn't confused by different styles if posted by different posters. Actually, if done every day or 2, it shouldn't be so bad. It was getting the list of earlier Terri threads for this one that took a little doing. There shouldn't be that many to update for each new thread.

* * INTERESTING - By the time the case came to trial in Jan. 2000, Michael Schiavo had found two witnesses to corroborate his version of Terri's wishes: Scott Schiavo, his brother, and Joan Schiavo, a sister-in-law. When Pearse initially became involved in 1998 Michael had NO OTHER WITNESSES TO HIS STORY

The "hire a witness" program, alive and well.

Since the time has past that a judge, greer or whoever, is supposeed to have appointed a GAL, I have two questions.

1, Why hasn't this been done?

2, Who do we contact to see it IS done?

Well, a third question comes to mind.

3, Does no one in Florida care that a law was passed that that WOULD BE DONE?

"So please, all you lurkers out there, help us help Terri. Her life is depending on us right now, and one day any of us could be in her shoes. Who will speak for us if we don't speak for Terri now?"

On the way home from work yesterday as I was praying for Terri and for my own daughter, who is now the age Terri was when she had her injury, I was thinking of how this could be MY daughter. I was remembering a call I got at about 4 in the morning just a few years ago, from a hospital telling me that my daughter had been in car accident and that I should come right away (it happened to be a good 2 hours away) They gave me so little information that all sorts of things were running through my mind on the drive up there. When I finally saw her, she looked like someone had beaten her up, but I was relieved to discover her to be alive and conscious and glad to see me. She was scheduled for immediate surgery for a broken neck. Her left wrist had also been severely crushed and they never expected her to have full use of it again. Thank God there had been no spinal cord damage.

While we were in the family waiting room next to the ICU, there was another family there day and night. Their son, near the same age as our daughter, had been in a car wreck also, and was comatose. The parents had been informed that he would never wake up, was not likely to survive and if he did would be a vegetable. It was awful what they were dealing with. Of course, at such times you thank the good Lord that it was not YOUR child, and then you feel guilty for those thoughts.

I am happy to report that my daughter recovered from her injuries much better and more quickly than anyone had anticipated. But every now and then I think of that family who were not so fortunate and wonder how things went with them and how are they coping.

Anyway, maybe it is because of my daughter and that experience that I feel so close to this case, or at least to this extent. I don't know, but I'm sure that all of you who are parents, especially of beautiful daughters, have at least considered that Terri could have been any one of OUR girls, and that makes us want to be there for her so even more.

I see they haven't put up my comment there yet. I posted that it is murder, plain
and simple and that Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature did the right thing ...

Thank you, Orlando, I found that a VERY interesting post!

Telling and/or showing others that Terri is a living, breathing soul can do wonders in the fight against evil.

I'd like to see this newspaper editor sent the facts. He or she might print a retraction once they off their behinds and do a little research.
They're misleading their readers and doing a disservice to the entire Texas community by printing this.

Thanks for the ping to this information on Pearse.

I'm impressed with the guy for taking a stand. Many of the folks involved in Terri's case in the past seemed to believe "Let George do it," meaning George Felos or George W. Greer.

I hope officials and newscasters will pay attention to Pearse.

Was Bruce Boyer the judge who was overseeing the case, when Pearse was involved, or was George Greer the Judge?

Courts to choose victor in battle over woman's life

Ironically, at the beginning of the case in 1998, it was Felos who requested an independent guardian for Terri Schiavo.

Attorney Richard Pearse was appointed, and he issued a report to Judge Bruce Boyer, who then was handling the case. In the report, Pearse said Michael Schiavo was not a credible witness to his wife's end-of-life wishes because he waited several years before coming forward with the claim that she wanted to die. Pearse also noted that Michael Schiavo would benefit financially from her death and be able to move on with his life.

After the report was issued, Felos attacked it and Pearse, and asked that Pearse be removed. Boyer complied.

Boyer never replaced Pearse. And Pearse said he believes a major opportunity was missed because Terri Schiavo has not had her own lawyer in the five years of litigation that have followed. "One of the interesting and ironic aspects of this case is that all of the parties have portrayed themselves as representing her interests," he said. "It's always desirable that a person in Terri's position have an independent representative who has no particular interest in the case other than Terri."

Anderson, who began representing the Schindlers in 2001, said the failure to replace Pearse has hindered the parents' case because Michael Schiavo, as Terri's legal guardian, controls her medical care and even her visitors.

"I got "file not found" on that first link."

I tried it this morning. Both Free Republic links worked fine, but I couldn't get to the legal brief either.

I made a printout of the brief previously, but didn't save it in a file.

Let's ask NYer what happened to the link? Maybe we can get another link to the brief.
