Query: I haven't been keeping up with NASCAR lately (football season). Was John Andretti hired by DEI or is he just filling in for a few races?

I'm the same way. I love NASCAR, but it's folly to go head to head against the NFL. Once football season starts, they should switch to Saturday night racing exclusively.

I don't think he was hired by DEI. Not sure of his status now or for 2004. Someone will have the answer tho. ;-)

If my calculations are right, Matt Kenseth could clinch the season point championship if he increases his lead by 51 points. Matt has a provisional start but he has a way of being close at the end.

Once the season point race is over, TV interest will probably really fall off.

There's no point race now to speak of. Kenseth needed to crash and burn on the first lap of every race for the past couple of months (almost) to make it interesting.

Speaking only for myself, I don't care that much about the point race, anyway. The only time I'm interested is if it's extremely close and the two frontrunners are bumping and grinding. That adds a little bit of drama.

John was a guest on Inside NASCAR Monday night after the race. He was joined by teammate Michael Waltrip, who is a regular on the show. Michael asked John point blank, "How do you like working for DEI and are you going to stay?".

John was his usual self in skirting the big question, but said that he was very happy there and felt he had found a home. He said being at DEI felt like "graduating from grade school and going to high school". Though he didn't come right out and say he would or wouldn't be the driver of the #1 car, he did imply that if a sponsor is found, he'll be in the seat. Watching him on the show, it appeared to me that Mikey was giving him the opening to clear a lot of things up.

If you read the transcript of last week's show with Dave Wilson (click 'John on the Radio'), you'll see that Dave also asked this leading question. Read between the lines, folks.......These interviewers, friends of John I might add, aren't going to put him in a spot by asking questions that haven't already been privately answered. These two incidents, plus other comments heard over the weekend in the media pretty much lead to one conclusion......that if a sponsor is found for the car, John will be in it for the 2004 season.

Since Nemechek got a new car (Army 01) I haven't been able to figure out who his teammates are. You see, I am not very bright. So, can anyone tell me who G.I. Joe's teammates are?

I really don't like the idea that a one trick pony (top ten finishes) is going to win. He has one only one race. He doesn't deserve it as far as I am concern. It is like going to the superbowl because you almost won every game.

That is Kennesth has won only one race.

I suspect the scoring rules are going to be changed. There's really no substantial point reward for winning a race, although the money is obviously significantly different.

I don't know what the proper formula is, but things would certainly look different if each winner received a 50 point bonus, as an example.
