Intelligence points to early November attack by Al Qaida

U.S. intelligence officials said Al Qaida terrorists might be planning a major attack in early November. Preparations for the attack were said to have been completed by the end of October. But the attack was put off until early November, the sources said.

A key indicator was the recent taped message from Osama bin Laden, which U.S. officials said is often a prelude to Al Qaida attacks.

A statement published last week in the London Arabic newspaper, Al Majallah, bolstered intelligence of the impending attack. The report stated that an Al Qaida leader, Abu-Muhammad al-Ablaj, had sent a message stating that Al Qaida leaders have been preparing to execute Bin Laden's threat to conduct attacks against the United States.

The newspaper's correspondent in Dubai reported that the terrorist group's "commanders, cadres, and key leaders have been holding extensive meetings wherever they are for almost one month in preparation for carrying out what was said in Bin Laden's two messages."

This is gaining some heat. FOX reported on the Washington/NY/LA warning yesterday. It sounds like there's a bullet in the chamber. We can all say, "prove it", but al Qaeda can send as many red herrings they want. We have no choice but to be vigilant EVERY TIME they send up smoke signals like this. We have no choice. To ignore it will be fatal, eventually.

There has been some mention in Islamic discussion groups of 14 Ramadan 1424, which resolves to 11 November 2003. Also, "Tuesday" has been mentioned. November 11, 2003 is a Tuesday. As someone posted earlier, there has also been mention of something happening between the eclipses - Nov 9 and Nov 23. If any of this stuff is genuine, it would point to Tuesday, Nov 11, 2003 in NY, Wash and/or LA (which have also been mentioned). We shall see.

I have a hard time believing that the date has any bearing. 9/11 was just the date they chose. Fearing an attack on 11/9 just seems like tin-foil-hat stuff to me.

Well, the key thing about 9/11 is it had CAVU (Clear Air, Visbility Unlimited) conditions from Boston to Washington DC, making the attacks much easier. If it had been cloudy I suspect the whole thing would have been delayed till the next week or something.

Actually AQ doesn't seem to have any particular date choosing pattern at all, and Ramadan doesn't seem to be of any particular significance to them in World-Wide attacks.

The massive obsession you see with numerology and astronomy and historical-date picking you see is an odd psychological way of managing fear; in the face of all evidence to the contrary people want to believe that you can somehow pick out dates for a likely attack; it gives a feeling of control and understanding and reduces the randomness of attacks.

IIRC the hijackers didn't even use metal knives, just ceramic knives. You can easily carry that through security. It only took a few men and ceramic bits to accomplish 911, not an entire army on horses spraying everyone and everything with WMDs. Also the terrorists would already be in the US, not in Afghanistan.
