France cancels US-bound flights over security
Wed 24 December, 2003 18:45

PARIS (Reuters) - France says that national carrier Air France has cancelled three U.S.-bound flights from Paris due to security concerns.

An Air France spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday that a flight due to leave Paris at 1235 GMT for Los Angeles had been grounded "for security reasons".

An Interior Ministry spokesman said that two further flights to the United States had also been cancelled. It was not clear whether these flights were bound for Los Angeles or elsewhere.

The report yesterday was flights on Air France or from Mexico where they had increased security, and an "international US airport". Now we know why.

Stories yesterday and today from NBC News indicated that some of the intel being picked up contained some very specific data - even including Air France flights and flights from Mexico. This fits in with the concelled flights from Paris - in all likelihood Air France flights.

"Decision made by French gov per CNN infobabe."

They may be onto something.

Most people don't know that France routinely audiotapes all First Class cabins to/from US and France, to further French national corporate espionage (Boeing/Airbus competition)

Perhaps the French overheard a conversation about AQ plans.

Was waiting for the first knee-jerk anti-French comment! Deep thinkin', from people who poured good wine onto the sidewalk and called the land of Lafayette "the enemy".

Some people resent the French because they can't pronounce all them French words on the menu at fancy restaurants

The real problem is Muslims in France

An important detail is arrival time since al-Queda carefully times their attack. IE: If the flights were leaving now they would be on the east coast aroung 8:00 PM.

I wonder if the French concerns had anything to do with a request from the American Embassy...

msnbc was saying that state and the white house had been in touch earlier today with the french govt concerning being more vigilant.

The french capitulate again!! It was just announced on CNN that the french interior minister announced three flights from paris to L.A. have been cancelled due to "security" concerns. I will post the story as it becomes available. Way to go france....you must be very proud of the way you constantly throw up your hands in surrender! Or is this a way to ruin the holidays for Americans hoping to get home and be with family members for tomorrow??!!

I am of French extraction, I feel comfortable saying that France is no longer the land of Lafayette.
It is the enemy.

But pouring out wine already purchased is stupid.
Drink it, pee on the French Embassy, and don't buy any more.

"Richard Reid was on a flight out of Paris. Doesn't sound like they solved their security problems, does it?"

They cancelled the flights, so that suggests that the security was working.

If they cancelled the flight, they must have been concerned that their was a bomb hidden onboard.
