GOP may oppose Bush's guest-worker plan

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The White House has run into its first public opposition over a proposed guest-worker program -- and it comes from within President Bush's own party.

The initiative, announced Jan. 7, would let millions of illegal aliens now in the United States remain as guest workers for renewable three-year periods if they have jobs. The aliens eventually could apply for permanent legal residence.

The only way a politician can win reelection while pushing policies opposed by 85% of the population is to somehow sell himself as slightly less evil than his opposition.

Hopefully, the Democrats will become extinct in the 2004 election, the Republicans will take up the mantle as the party of the far left, and by 2008 a new conservative party will emerge to represent the 75% to 85% of the population that currently has no representation.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, as far as sentiment about the Bush immigration amnesty proposal in the Republican Party is concerned. By his carefully worded statement, Senator Kyl is doing Bush a big favor. He should definitely not be ostracized and marginalized for speaking out, like the White House has already done to Rep. Tom Tancredo.

I think Bush is floating a trial balloon--no, even a false effort--with the hope that it will be viewed or cited as a positive effort toward "inclusiveness" and that it will be defeated by public opinion and congressional action. It will not become the law but it can be used to bolster support from...(fill in the blanks.) It's rather politcally astute, but it won't gain him a victory edge with the Hispanics. But still, it will help a bit and, because it's doomed not pass Congress, almost harmless to our extant immigration policy.

In the CFR action, Bush went for the short run because the GOP was positioned well for more hard money.

In the long run the 1st Amendment has been trampled.

If you argree with Bush on "nearly everything," then you must be a liberal. Bush has massive expanded the welfare state with his prescription drug plan and education spending bill, signed a tyrannical campaign finance "reform" bill that censors people from running ads crticizing a candidate three months before an election, proposed amnesty for illegal aliens and, in the process, slandered the American working man by saying he won't do the jobs that illegals do, proposed wasting billions of tax dollars on going to the moon (again!) instead of giving the money back to the taxpayers down here on Earth, and refused to even give a simple yes or no answer on whether he supports a constitutional amendment to ban homosexual marriage. As a real conservative, I agree with Bush on nearly nothing.

The GOP Had darned well better oppose this so-called "plan".

I am sure the president is loosing millions over this. His poll numbers took a big hit regarding support this past week and it is no wonder why, this is an insane proposal and provides NO homeland security at all.

I received a call after he made his announcement from the RNC asking for money, we have supported the president, his father and Bob Dole's bid and worked for the RNC candidate for the last two elections here in New Hampshire. My response to their call for money: "Let the President get the money from the ILLEGAL immigrants". I then blasted them over this ridiculous policy along with the President (and the "Republican" Parties) unwillingness to genuinely fight for the President's judicial nominees. As long as they subscribe to "gentlemen’s filibusters" instead of the real thing, and illegals over American citizens, they will not get a dime from us. I am sure we are just a sample of the conservative base and others within the Republican Party who have had it. I am tired of having our voting block taken for granted.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for President Bush and pray for him daily, but I can not support policies that are going bankrupt America and to enslave our sons and daughters along with all future generations of Americans to support illegal immigrants, with free jobs, free health care, free college tuition and social security bennies after 18 months all so that he can make kissy points with Vincene Fox, and the Hispanic population here and in South America.

Our oldest son incurred a debt of $40k and our youngest will end up owing over $60k just to pay for his college education, and I do not know about you but we have to PAY for the healthcare we receive and if we do not have it, we have to get it. There are no free rides for Americans but for illegals...cue the music: "everything free in America... ok by me in America".

Our oldest son just graduated last year and is working as a computer programmer... his job is in jepordy of being "outsorced" to a third world hell hole where people subsist on slave wages, but hey it is America and according to the president foreigners are being given the jobs that "Americans do not want to do".

The president may get 4 more years with such a ploy, but American CITIZENS/taxpayers and future generations of us will be paying for it the rest of our lives... FOREVER because once "entitlements" are established, they are NEVER rescinded, .... NEVER! I, and multitudes of other sane Republicans cannot and will not be a party to this.

Like I said, let the RNC get the money from Vincente Fox and the illegals.
