Kerry Gaining Ground (Bush 45%, Kerry 42%)

January 27, 2004--Senator John Kerry has pulled to within three points of George W. Bush in the Rasmussen Reports national tracking poll. Yesterday, Kerry trailed by five points.

Kerry is the most competitive of all Democrats in a general election match-up with the President. He is also the top choice among all Democrats to win the party's Presidential nomination.

Senator John Edwards trails the President by just five points, 45% to 40%.

Before the Iowa caucuses, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and retired General Wesley Clark were the most competitive Democrats. Both now trail Bush by double digit margins.

Survey results show that a generic Democrat polls better than any individual candidate at this point in time.

These results are from a national telephone survey of 1,500 Likely Voters conducted by Rasmussen Reports over the past three nights. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points, with a 95% level of confidence.

Survey data showing the race between President Bush and a generic Democrat is updated daily on this site by noon.

you're kidding right? you think that most americans understand the details of the impeachement proceedings against clinton? many of these same people don't know who the vice president is, don't know basic elements of US history. I guess you are lucky enough to only encounter very well informed, educated people every day.

I asked for stats to back up a statement, if you have them, please share, if not, back to whatever you were doing before you started speculating about what I think.

I deduce most people think he was impeached over sex because of the following two indisputable facts:

1) His defenders said repeatedly that he was being impeached over sex

2) His poll numbers went UP dramatically, leading to GOP losses in the midterm election, the first time the party controlloing the Whitehouse gained after being in power for 6 years in something like 60 or 70 years.

If you need documentation of either 1) or 2) I can give it to you.

I therefore put 2 and 2 together and get 4. If you have a more rational explanation for what happened, I'd like to hear it. And no, something like, "Everybody's sick of politics" is not a rational explanation.

There's also plenty of anecdotal evidence - man on the street interviews saying "I don't think his personal life is anyone's business" etc.

I'm not aware of a poll that's been done asking people "Why do you think Clinton was impeached". I doubt you have "stats" indicating that most people understand why he was impeached. So all we have is logical inferences, which are pretty strong to indicate as I stated.

It's dark in those MA voting booths, and as the typical Boston voter bends over, all he can read is the K and the Y. This has allowed the Kennedys and the Kerry to slip into office, along with Barney Frank.

Now that's funny!

On the democrats side I see it as a run for control of their party at this stage....

Gore = Dean
Kennedy = Kerry
Clinton = Clark

I think the numbers are excellent. All that mudslinging by the democrats, that's all you hear.
Bush hasn't said a word yet, hasn't started campaigning and he is still in the lead. It's quite impressive.

Rasmussen is about as reliable as Newsweak. In 2000 he had Bush beating Gore by about 8%.

NYC will be nuked within 10 years.

Regretably, I think that is possible regardless of which party is in power.

Hmmm. This makes my suspicions about Dick Cheney's replacement all the more likely.

However, please understand that Bush is barely on the radar right now. Kerry will wrap up the nomination in early March. He will also be out of money. That's when the carpet bombing in selected swing states will begin.

Right now the media loves Kerry because he sounds good, is a known Senate liberal, and goes to the same parties they do. I'm surprised Bush is holding at this level. This will change as Bush gets out there and gets his base up and running.

By mid-May, we should be fighting in Pakistan. Not wagging the dog, mind you; it appears that now is as good a time as any to wrap up the Mystery Sheik and send him and his buddies to meet the 72 virgins. Bin Laden presumed that we would be preoccupied with the Ba'athist rebels to come after him.

What if it turns out that he thought poorly?

Be Seeing You,

Chris

we CAN'T run ads to tell the truth about the dark side 90 days before the elections?

Who's we...... the direct campaign can run ads as long as they are paid with 'hard' money....... can't they?

Ads right now would be a waste until we get to at least Super Tuesday, Mar. 2 at which time the democrat nominee may be known.... Remember President Bush hasn't been campaigning to get equally time, no primary debates or daily events in these states, no media following him around making the daily deadline back to the newsroom, etc. etc.

Once they get a defined candidate then the Bush/Cheney campaign can unleash the $100+ they have on hand at this time and start defining the issues...... start holding campaign events, appearing with other Republican candidates, etc.. Also the democrat is going under the FEC money one month earlier than the President, so he can essentially spend more.

anything is possible.

but just as 8 years of clinton gave us 9/11, 7 months after his departure, give kerry a term and/or toss hillary in there for a term or two, and you can bank on it.

---It simply is so hard to accept that 41% of the American people are either blind, stupid, or socialists.---

Never sell your opponent short. If I remember right GW won the last election by a narrow margin. Both in the electoral college and the popular vote. Regards

I understand why you think NOW is too early....however, the dark side doesn't think that way (and never have). They begin running ads early (the unions, the special interest liberal groups)....The GOP has a history of waiting...by then a hole is dug...the KEY is to destroy what the liberals are saying, with the truth, EARLY so that what the dem canidate says is ALREADY defeated....

It is time for the GOP to learn from the left....the left is running anti-Bush ads NOW.

By the way, it is obvious that Bush SR and his campaign had a different view than me to...I recall DAILY calls to them to get off their asses and start getting the truth out...I recall Rush saying surely they would soon...they didn't, they lost....
