Rough Ride - Protect Our Border's - Fight Illegal Immigration {{{Ongoing Thread}}}
Southern Poverty Law Center ^ | 1-29-04 | Bob Moser

Posted on 01/29/2004 1:42:07 AM PST by JustPiper

Being I do not want this to be assumed as a vanity thread I am posting a legitimate article that was recently brought to my attention.

This article has upset me greatly. When the Freedom Bus Ride was ongoing, we had an ongoing thread posted by EternalWarming. On this thread I posted an after Freep report my daughter and I attended in Chicago. On this thread someone also posted an inflammatory picture which was removed but we tastelessly laughed at it.

We had someone, that obviously was a DU and threatened us but singled myself out, with reporting it to Southern Poverty Law Center that I in fact was a hate monger. As many poster's this person was a hit/miss. I attended this Freep back in June. And this article has a few paragraphs about me, one of which is exactly what I posted. The second, is apparently doctored and quite contrary to my post. I cleared this in order to be able to post it.

Credit to thecabal for the above logo

Today begins an ongoing thread to add your links, important news, legislative happenings etc. all regarding the protection of our borders. There are now so many articles and news stories that it is good to have one place to view it all.

I will start off this thread with saying I believe we all need to contact our state representatives and those is our party who need to know this is not a one-horse issue that will go away.I have stated that all it takes is one issue to start a domino effect and the entire administration could fall apart. None of us wants that to happen. We also need to contact the media and make sure the democratic spin on this is not for political advantage. This issue is closely correlated with the War On Terror for terrorist's are using our open border's against us the same way they used commercial flights to attack us on 911.

Being I do not want this to be assumed as a vanity thread I am posting a legitimate article that was recently brought to my attention.

Here is the story:

Anti-immigration activists confront a pro-migrant freedom ride — joined by some of America's leading neo-Nazi groups

Exerpted:

On the sparkling afternoon of Oct. 3, 18 buses carrying more than 900 Immigrant Workers Freedom Riders rolled into New Jersey's Liberty State Park. The riders, many of them illegal immigrant workers from Central America, had boarded the buses nearly two weeks before in 10 different U.S. cities.

Inspired by the 1961 Freedom Rides for black civil rights, they'd made more than 100 stops in small towns and big cities to promote their reform agenda: greater workplace protections, reunification of immigrant families, and a "road to citizenship" for America's estimated 8 to 10 million undocumented workers.

Some of the protests had been lonely, with one or two anti-immigration activists holding signs with slogans like "Being Illegal Is Not a Civil Right." But at upwards of a dozen Freedom Ride stops, the anti-immigration activists had been joined by members of the nation's largest white-supremacist hate groups — all of whom had come together for today's demonstration.

Their arguments often sounded similar. Like Turner and many hate-group leaders, the powerful Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) called for federal officials to arrest the undocumented Freedom Riders.

"Any event that advertises the participation of illegal aliens ought to be raided, and the illegal aliens deported," Mark Krikorian of CIS told the Miami Herald.

At a Chicago rally, where members of the white-supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens and the neo-Nazi White Revolution appeared along with members of mainstream anti-immigration groups, protesters held signs saying, "No more free rides. No more welfare. No more stolen jobs."

This is where I need to interject ...The first highlighted paragraph 'is' in fact what I posted in my after Freep report

For many of the anti-immigration protesters, rallying side-by-side with neo-Nazis and Klansmen was too close for comfort. "Turns out we were smack in the middle of a damn white supremacist group!" an anti-immigration activist calling erself "JustPiper" complained on an Internet chat site after the Chicago counter-demonstration.

This is obviosuly what the DU troll rewrote from the rest of my report for me and sent it to SPLC

But what really got under JustPiper's skin seemed to be the Freedom Riders, not the neo-Nazis from White Revolution. "[T]hese banditos kept screaming obscenities and threats at us," she claimed. "Lemme tellya, they were just coming with signs like cockroaches!"

I've posted thousands of replies and articles here and never have I said something so idiotic or silly like this. I have made a derogatory remark about illegals offhanded saying they were reproducing like some creature. And yes I posted they were yelling threats and obsecenities at my daughter and I. But we stayed silent holding our poster's in front of us. Also we left the group when a federal agent (This was in front of the Federal Building)told us we were standing by white supremacist's which means now both side's were scaring us and we went to stand with some police officer's who knew our dual plight. So people firsthand I am feeling the sting and I will not back down from the illegal immigrant issue!

Bush's immigration plan will have many negative effects

By Matt Hall
Opinion Columnist

January 26, 2004

President Bush's plan to allow our nation's estimated 8-12 million illegal immigrants to legally work is by far the most dangerous proposal of his administration and maybe even the most irresponsible presidential initiative in the average WMU student's lifetime.

The smears against me, on this issue, have only come from FReepers. That won't last long, I'm sure, because I've been recently getting quoted alot more in Arizona papers and elsewhere.

I want to add in here a link to the South East Arizona Republican Club for which I serve as President. This club is on the forefront of this issue. Among our members we enjoy such people as Homeland Hero (according to Tom Tancredo in a House speech) rancher Roger Barnett and his wife. We have LTC (ret) Jim Behnke who ran for Congress against RINO Jim Kolbe. We have AZ Rep. Randy Graf who is one of the organizers of the Protect Arizona Now Initiative and AZ House Majority Whip. Recently our members have been published and quoted in newspapers, magazines, and websites across the nation on the border issue. One of our members, Erin Anderson, just had a 3-part article she co-authored with William Hawkins published in FrontPage Magazine. Dave Stoddard made WorldNetDaily. The protest I organized against Jim Kolbe and the mock-up Border Patrol Agent with the Amnesty Knife in his back that I made has been featured in more places than I can list for you right now. Members have been interviewed for local newscast. Etcetera.

Speakers at our club meetings have included newsmakers such as Glenn Spencer of American Border Patrol, Kathy McKee of Protect Arizona Now, Chris Simcox of Civil Homeland Defense and others. And we get representatives from national organizations to come down to our tiny corner of Arizona and speak to us.

Our website is an excellent source for Republican news and views and it has a number of articles about the border issue.

I challenge anyone to find another Republican club that is this active on the border issue. And I was lucky (insane) enough to get elected a year ago to serve as the club's president. What a ride it has been.

I suppose they think they are Americas' salvation. However
I do not think they have many within their ranks who are
Southern--nor who can relate to poverty--but it seems all
a scam constructed to enrich and empower carpetbagging
attoneys of the ACLU ilk.

That article is such an outrage, I don't know where to begin! I wish you could sue him. It's hideous the way those of us who just want our laws enforced, we are the ones who are slammed and criticized and called vile names. Those who are actually breaking the laws cannot even be called "illegal" lest they be "offended." We truly live in an upside-down world.

JP -

Worry not your troubled heart about the smear. I know it's infuriating and frustrating that you have no effective recourse for response, however, this issue is generating major response from Americans of all walks. Neither Bush/Rove, nor the idiots who believe that illegal immigrants are entitled to amnesty/citizenship will win this one. There are more of us than corrupt politicians who can stuff ballot boxes.

W is flat out wrong on this issue and will take a nose dive over this and the NEA funding issue. The excellent work you have done in staying on top of this issue inspires more of us to speak out against it. If we all write in Tom Tancredo in our state primaries instead of dutifully checking Bush for Pres., perhaps Bush/Rove will get the hint.

As I have maintained since Bush proposed his "immigration reform", if breaking the law is supposed to be beneficial for one segment of our society, think how spectacular it will be if we ALL break the law!!!

Either we are a nation of laws or we aren't; Bush can't have it both ways. If we aren't a nation of laws, Bush's proposed "immigration reform" will make us a nation of men.

IMPORTANT REMINDER TO MAKE YOUR WRITE-IN VOTE COUNT

"At the first table where you check in to vote, ask the poll worker for a paper ballot for the Republican primary. At no time go into a voting booth, or your paper ballot will be disqualified."

Thanx to Tennesseans for Tancredo for this info!!!

You were quoted from your fr posts by DU and SPLC - congrats! If you're cheesing these people off, you must be doing something right.

I remember reading the thread in question, and your reports from the frontlines - great stuff, kinda scary, but you survived and got experience. And now you've gotten a taste of how the immigration front works - calling a critic "racist", taking comments out of context to show it, all part of the tactics. You're gonna have to figure out a way to deal with the personal attacks and smears if you intend to get involved at the next level. You can do it. Stay the course.

Also, thanks for the links.

From Virginia Abernethy from Tennesseans for Tancredo

Neat, isn't it, when U.S. citizens have to rely on the foreign press to tell us what is happening to our country?

But I suspect the official number of illegal aliens who stay annually is understated by Mexican as well as the United States officials. For years, the U.S. Census Bureau gave us a false immigration picture.

The Census Bureau reformed [temporarily] only in the face of a 2003 Northeastern University study which revealed the true number of illegal aliens as between 8 and 12 million. [[See: Sum, Andrew, Harrington,Paul, Palma, Sheila. The Impacts of the Recession of 2001 and the
Jobless Recovery of 2002 on the Native Born and Immigrant Workforce of the United States. Northeastern University (Boston) and Center for Immigration Studies (Washington, D.C.). February, 2003.

Illegal immigration to U.S. grew by nearly 70 per cent in 12 years

Deutsche Presse-Agentur, January 26, 2004

MEXICO CITY (DPA) -- The number of Mexicans illegally entering the United States increased by 66 per cent from 1990 to 2002, a Mexican government report said Monday.

The study, by the National Population Council (Conapo), found that the number of Mexicans who cross the border illegally every year has grown to more than 1 million. Of that number, only about a third achieve their goal
of staying in the United States to work.

The number of Mexicans living in the United States went from 4.3 million in 1994 to 9.5 million in 2002, according to U.S. estimates.

According to Conapo, in the 12 years of the study an average 390,000 Mexicans remained in the United States annually.

Last year, Mexicans in the United States sent roughly 12 billion dollars back to their relatives in Mexico.

In a move acknowledging the illegal worker problem, U.S. President George W. Bush recently proposed granting undocumented workers, most of whom come from Mexico, temporary work permits.

Bush said the measure, which must still win passage by the U.S. Congress, would help do away with an ``undocumented underclass'' that struggle to get by in the United States.

Among all those who should understand the link between rapid population growth, immigration, and environmental degradation, it is the environmental community. But for years both Audubon and the Sierra Club have studiously avoided criticising mass immigration. Maybe they are having a change of heart.

It is past time for rethinking mass immigration. The children born to post-1970 immigrants plus the annual flow of legal and illegal immigrants account for 87% of U.S. population growth.

Twenty-three congressmen warned President Bush in a letter
yesterday that he risks an election-year backlash from Republican voters if he continues to press his guest-worker proposal.

The Republican lawmakers said their congressional offices have received a flood of angry letters, e-mails and phone calls from Republican constituents vowing that they will refuse to vote for the president if his program is approved.

"If we do not listen to our constituents on this matter, our influence and effectiveness in Congress could be jeopardized."

Most of the congressmen signing are conservatives who represent Western, Southern and Midwestern states, including California, Idaho, Texas, Tennessee and Kansas.
