'Reverse discrimination' at the University of Nebraska
NAS web page ^ | 1/30/2004 | Nebraska Association of Scholars

Posted on 01/30/2004 2:02:41 PM PST by Right Wing Professor

Over a seven year period, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln has been conducting an illegal program of hiring based on race/ethnicity and sex, which they call 'opportunity hiring'. Briefly, they identify a female or minority candidate whio is minimally qualified for an academic position, and then hire the candidate without advertizing the job to others or running a competitive search. The purpose of this procedure is to avoid identifying white/asian/ and/or male candidates who might be better qualified for the position, and would therefore have to be hired instead.

The National Association of Scholars, of which we are the Nebraska affiliate, plans to mount a legal challenge to this policy, and we have the backing of a major conservative legal foundation. We are looking for plaintiffs. If you have an advanced degree in any of the fields listed below, or a closely related field, and were looking for a job in the period 2000-2004, FReepmail me. I'll treat your contact in confidence, and put you in touch with some conservative lawyers who may be able to make you quite a bit of cash, gratis, while you help attack reverse discrimiatory hiring policies. It's a win-win opportunity!

The fields in which illegal hires were made are

Advertizing
Biological Sciences
Curriculum and Instruction
English
Ethnic Studies
History
Mathematics
Modern Languages and Literature
Psychology
Sociology
Textiles Clothing and Design

Reverse discrimination nothing. It's straight-up racism and/or sex discrimination. It's disgusting and wrong, but it's condoned, supported, and encouraged at all levels of govt. (state and federal) since it's directed against white men. If the university had these policies against women or blacks, they'd be burned to the ground.

I live here in Lincoln, NE and I've heard about his going on for some time. The city of Lincoln is also notorious for hiring woman and minorities over more qualified white applicants

I applied for a job as a Corrections Officer and was turned down without so much as an interview despite the fact that I have a four year degree in Paralegal studies and I'm in the National Guard. A black female friend of mine was hired for the job despite not having a finished a degree or have any army experiance. Hmmmm.

You're right. It's time we stand up and fight. I hope the courts get swamped with cases just like this.

'bout time somebody stands up to them.

The worst part is, they know perfectly well it's sillegal, but they're counting on the fact that the people excluded won't hear about it or won't have the time and money to sue if they do. We can ensure the legal bills are covered; we just need to get the word out to potential plaintiffs.

I'd sue, but since I already have a job here, I have no standing.

Be careful!! "National Association of Scholars?" Never heard of it!! Very few public university instructors would have the balls or interest in opposing the neocommunists in higher education. It just isn't done. The leftists have run this group for too many years.

Before you send your name, make damn sure the outfit is legit and not just another mechanism to identify the non-lefties to be black-balled or to ensure that they never get tenure.

The article reads like a solicitation to get white, male candidates to step forward to form a class action suit. Don't, unless you are sure that this is for real. The neocommunist cells at every public university exchange information to ensure that as few non-believers as possible get tenure.

In Canada, ads for positions with the provincial government openly said preference will be given to .... minorities, when I left there a few years ago. Canadians did not seem to have any recourse to this abuse of 'fairness.'

The same happens here in the US all the time. The ad will say something "woman and minorities encouraged to apply". It means the same thing.

Uh, prof? Just a quibble, but "advertising" is spelled with an "s," not a "z." Doesn't do your credibility much good.

There are several hits if you do a search for "Nebraska Association of Scholars." Whether this poster is a representative of that group, I can't say. But it appears the group is legitimate.

The whole thing drives me nuts. I graduated in May 2000 (mechanical engineering), so I can definitely relate to this story. Pisses me off, I was last on everybody's list just for being a white guy. I found a job, but it was a lot harder than it needed to be.

The NAS is legitimate and has been around for awhile...I don't remember when they got started but probably in the 1980s. Reverse discrimination in academia has been an issue of particular concern to them.

Sorry to hear it, I thought non-discrimination meant just that. Guess I was naive.

Sorry. I was brought up in the UK and Ireland. I've adapted to 99% of US spelling, but -ize vs. -ise and -izing vs. -ising still defeats me.

http://www.nas.org/

A class action suit would be really, really good, but we'd settle for a regular lawsuit.

If anyone shares Tacis's (perhaps justified) paranoia, you don't have to give me any personal details; I can put you in contact with the relevant people anonymously.

By the way, I have been on FR for over three years, i don't conceal my actual identity, which ou can get from my profile, and if you google my real name, you'll find lots of evidence online that I am in fact what I say I am.
