Many House critics of the Bush immigration plan said privately that the proposal was created to win Mr. Bush a larger share of the Hispanic vote in November and to mollify Mexican President Vicente Fox.

What evidence do they have that he is going to gain any significant votes? Mexican socialists are never going to support the small-government, nationalistic version of the Republicans.

One glaring omission in all of the self-righteous indignation. Where was the self criticism? Every spending bill the hate was passed by them. Bush just made an immigration proposal it is completely within their power to vote it down.

If our voices were being heard they wouldn't have proposed these assenine policies in the first place.

The people at the white house and the RNC will do what they always do best, ignore the base.

To my friends in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, CPAC FReepers, AND the lurkers from B/C'04 on Free Republic:

It is very evident that many of you have been contacting your elected representatives concerning what you like, or don't like that is coming out of the current administration, or Bush/Cheney'04. You are to be commended for that , and encouraged to continue.

I received criticism from B/C'04 the other day, Gary Marx to be exact, because many of you took the time to contact him directly @ georgewbush.com and let him know what you like, and don't like about this administration, or past actions by our Compassionately Conservative president.

This campaign is about ideas, how WE think this country ought to be run, how it is run, and how it could be better.

If you sit on the sidelines, you have NO RIGHT to complain, bitch, crow, hedge, glow, or mope about what is going on, or what will happen in the next four years with:

The War on Terror
Tax Cuts
Campaign Finance Reform
The Kenndey Education Bill, (No Child Left Behind)
Renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban, (No Gun Left Behind)
Medicare Prescription Drugs, (the noose around the necks of our children)
The ill-conceived Immigration Reform Bill,(No Borders Bill, or is it No Mexican Vote Left Behind?)
Defense of Marriage,(God Bless the Ohio Legislature)
Non-Support of Fed Judiciary Nominees, (Pickering excepted)
Active Bush43 support of RINO Arlen Spector against Pat Toomey- did you know this man will run the Judiciary Committee next year? God Help US!!!

Letters to the editor, call your local talk radio station, contact your CongressCritters, contact georgewbush.com

Regardless if you are a Bushbot, or you think that this party is going to Hell in a Handbasket act today.

In God We Trust…..Semper Fi!

"He said he didn't do it for politics [but] because that's what he believes is good for the country," Mr. Duffy said, adding that Mr. Bush drove his point home by saying, "I'm from Texas and I know this issue."

Well that's good enough for me! So long as Bush Jr. can mumble his usual monosyllabic stammering utterances about this or that, I'm convinced. Especially since I'm from Southern California and know, as this brilliant man does, that the faster you import massive numbers of third world migrants, the happier everyone will be.

Don't get too excited, this is all for show, we get to tell ourselves Rove and Bush have been taken behind the woodshed. It's a day late and a dollar short for this ploy isn't it?

Where were their Republican principles when they passed everything Bush proposed? Of course Bush has been a complete bully from what I have read, calling and threatening lawmakers to pass his foolishness. Telling Tancredo not to darken his door.

Bush is from Texas and he knows this issue? We'll see.

Great post. Great news that Karl Rove is listening to "the base"......

May this shamnesty get flushed down the toilet for good and not come back in 2005 after GWBush gets re-elected

But will OUR voices mean anything? We won't know until the Meet the Press coming up with President Bush. If he has listened to OUR voices, this would be an appropriate place to convey that fact.

I'm utterly amazed to have come on this thread and see all this bickering. Here we have an example of our elected representatives *gasp* listening to conservatives, and all some folks can do is gripe. It's just amazing - you're so invested in an Internet argument that you can't step back and be happy conservatives' voices are being heard.

Those of you who think there is no place for criticism of Bush here, remember that many of these conservatives did vote against the issues we're now protesting, and were outvoted. It's completely reasonable to expect them to voice their displeasure with the man who called on Congress to pass this legislation and later signed it into law.

As far as "presenting a united front", how many of you credited the Democrats with doing the same during the Clinton years? As I recall, most folks here criticized them as cowards for blindly supporting Clinton instead of having some spine. Now, apparently, Republicans with spines are cowards in some of your minds.

You can't make stuff like this up.

Why are you stirring up trouble, ovrtaxt? This is an election year. Show some freaking solidarity, will you? After the election, we'll have harmony. The GOP knows what is best for us. You just have to trust and obey, for there's no other way...

If there were an oponet for Bush that were better I would certainly vote for him or her. But look at the alternatives and everyone the Democrats have to offer is controlled by liberals or Clintons and in either case the scenario would get worse. A Third Party candidate is not feaseable and they could never be elected.
Busk like a lot of Republicans will never understand that you cant get the African American vote regardless of what you do. Every person that has reached out to them has had their hands cut off at the elbow. They even castigate their own race if they disagree with them.
Bush may can make some inroads into the Hispanic Community but that really remains to be seen. Alienating his base and those of us who consider ourelves Independant will only beat him.
I cannot in good conscience vote for any Democrat on the horizon and the good ones in my opinion are either leaving the party or retiring.
I hate to say this but my family may just sit at home and ride it all out because we never benefit from anything either party does anyway.

If he's from Texas he should know how much federal dollars is having to pour into the southern counties of Texas -- and that Texas was right behind California in state budget deficits. Bush should know that if state and federal taxpayer money was cut off to the areas of high immigration in Texas that everything would collapse. The border area has welfare rates of 50%. Schools and hospitals have been bailed out numerous times.

"I would not say we jumped all over Karl, but we did have a very pointed discussion about the concerns we are hearing from our base," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Republican.

GO MARSHA! I am glad to see she took her conservative courage to the capitol.
