Although in practice it usually ends up becoming a better scientologist, losing your family, and cleaving only to the church...

Scammintology is a fraud built on psychobabble. It has all of the underpinnings of a classic cult and the story line simply reveals what a bad science fiction writer Hubbard was. I have watched mini-cult leaders in action personally, I know who they're looking for as potential targets and I know how they do it practice their slimy craft. The leaders of Scammintology are a bunch of skeevy parasites not unlike ponzi scheme operators. I do happen to know a couple of people who distanced themselves from the scam but are now unable to extract their daughter. BTW, I found out about that long after I had come to the conclusion that Scammintology was simply a racket.

Ahhh your final post really, REALLY opened my eyes on why it is so widely tagged as being a sect. It hooks you in as an organization to better yourself but then when you get into it, it keeps you only to itself. Nuf said, I'm pretty much done with this subject.

I learned a hellava lot from you tonight. It was so nice to have an adult conversation without a lot of the screaming that so often happens in this forum. I'm glad you got out, take care and good night

For a truly hostile, and mostly accurate take on the organization you might want to check out this site:

http://www.xenu.net/

That being said, I did get some benefit from my experiences in that organization. Kind of in the "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" school of thought...

In my post replace sect with cult. In France the translation for cult is sect. My husband is French so sometimes I get his French language mixed up with my English. Again many thanks.

Thanks for all your information. I too learned a great deal about their organization after reading your posts.

I used to live near one of their "missions," located next to a mall, in the 70s. You had to literally get physical with them, to walk past on your way shopping. They got 'tuition credits' for anyone they dragged into their free introductory lectures, and physically dragging seems to have counted.

Courts finally put a stop to it, but it took well over a year; they LOVE to litigate.

The Scientologists are outlawed in France. France as investigated them, they had their day in court and determined them to be a sect/cult. I never really investigated them until tonight and null and void was a most excellent teacher. It seems to me that the same rule that Supreem Court Justice identified as the test for pornography, "I can't define it but I know it when I see it" could be used to remove the tax exempt status for the Church of Scientology. I don't quite know how to define religion because there are so many different religions, but when I look at the Church of Scientology I "know it when I see it" that it isn't really a church or a religion.

hey I gotta go catch some zzzzzz. See ya 'round

You are very right...

Psalm 90:2 - Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had made the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Psalm 102:25-27

Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth
and the heavens are the work of your hands
They will perish, but you endure
They will all wear out like a garment
You change them like clothing and they pass away
but you are the same and your years have no end.

Interesting discussion. A former inlaw joined the COS and his family (quite well off) disinheireted him, to keep the Scientologists from getting his money. He was still happy to be a member.

On an off topic, I wonder if you have seen and compared two other "religions": Transcendental Meditation and Dr Callahan's Thought Field Therapy. To me they have in common that they promise self fulfillment, accomplishing of whatever you want to do, and cleaning out your internal termoil. Always for a price. Come to think of it, EST is in this game too. Any comments?

Good move IMHO.

He was still happy to be a member.

Good for him. There is a lot of benefit available, and I think anyone who is happy there is welcome to it. When (not if) it gets to the point where he's done/had enough, contact me.

Not really, don't know enough about these guys to speak intelligently. I think EST was founded by a former scientologist. TM just doesn't make sense to me from what little I know. Never heard of Thought Field Therapy.
