There's also the matter of what kind of person is able to know the Word and vigorously ignore it.

That's a good observation. In fact, I think if Douglass had assessed the situation a bit more, he would have found that the "irreligious" were actually religious--they just didn't make quite as big a brag of it.

Did Kerry make a reference to the Church's 501(c)3 status, which it holds by the pleasure of the government of which Kerry is a power-wielding member?

THAT is a winnable fight and one that should be undertaken. The RCC is wealthiest organization on the planet you seriously think they don't have the legal guns to take on the likes of John Kerry? In the immortal words of GW Bush "Bring 'em on"

How can any church that counts the Kennedys, Kerry, and Daschle as members have any credibility?

Are you aware that the popular GA Jimmy Carter left the Southern Baptists because they were too "conservative" for his tastes? He did not stick with the Southern Baptists in an attempt to "socialize" them. He went to another Baptist faction. But the Democrat Catholics stay Catholic to recruit a bloc of voters.

I wonder what size of donation was required for this ruling?

Thirty more pieces of silver? A 'charitable deduction', of course.

Without being born again and indwelt by the Spirit of Jesus, we will not be careful to examine ourselves before we partake and so we will, (because of ignorance of what the taking of communion means) partake and be imitators of Judas who went on his way after and betrayed Jesus.

John 13: 26Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly." 28But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. 29For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, "Buy those things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.

"Bishop Burke of St. Louis is one of the few bishops that I know of that walks the walk."

Don't forget Bishop Bruskewitz of Lincoln. Remember when he actually excommunicated some people back in the mid 90's?

I'm afraid O'Malley and other bishops like him have provided us with some compelling reasons to go to SSPX masses instead. O, if only they were licit!

Apparently Archbishop O'Malley's principles extend no further than the Kerry checkbook.

I think it's more a matter of O'malice and al Qerry preaching the same four gospels of Karl Marx, feminism, environmentalism and death. Birds of a feather, ya know.

Guess I didn't know that the RCC is well-enough equipped to take on a 501(c)(3) challenge by He Who Should Not Receive Communion...

The Archdiocese has not condoned giving Kerry communion.

I hope you are right.

In the Boston Globe article at the top of this thread, it is reported, "The Rev. John Ardis, director of the Paulist Center, where Kerry and his wife worship locally, said an archdiocesan official telephoned Thursday to tell him Kerry 'was as welcome as any other Catholic to receive the eucharist.'" I suppose this could be an untruthful statement by Ardis as part of a stunt. However, it seems like O'Malley is walking on egg shells by refaining from giving a clear instruction in public that Kerry is not to given communion and simply leaving it to Kerry's conscience.

"But the Democrat Catholics stay Catholic to recruit a bloc of voters."

The Catholic church has been in bed with the Democratic party for the last 100+ years. To this day there's Irish Catholic etc. resentment against the "protestant blue bloods" supposedly running the Republican party.
