"His rantings (Rush's)did Bush no favors that's for sure. Didn't make the conservative movement look too good either."

Rush also proposed that we take the next logical step and offer compensation to the victims. Of course if we did that, many Iraqi's would gladly submit to the same sort of treatment so they could be compensated too.

Rush was right to rant. The fact that our president gravely apologized to the prisioners, their families and the Iraqi people is farcical. If an a US Post office worker goes berserk and goes on a shooting spree that kills a German tourist, does that merit a presidential apology and hand wringing angst also?

Rush was upset that Bush caved to the the enemies without and within and thereby gave up some of the moral high ground.

Rather than a carefully worded almost apology Bush should have said that soldiers who commit crimes will be prosectuted and then gone on the offensive about the hypocracy of those attacking the US over this. He even rebuked Rumsfield for not telling Bush sooner. There are probably other crimes like rapes and thefts that were committed by US troops and are hopefully being investigated. Does bush plan on micromanaging everything that could give the libs something to attack him on?

There is a large segment of people in the world who call good evil and evil good. Bush made nice and caved in to them rather than calling them on it. The main theatre in the war on terrorism is ideology. Rush is a more potent warrior in this area than Bush. Bush blinked, and Rush was frustrated by it.

I agreed.

You decided to support that moron and fanned the flames.

Huh? LOL!

I don't have a clue what your talking about. Go back to the beginning to this thread and see #35, a nasty personal attack on me.

But hey, it's Joes fault! LOL!

No apologies necessary nor will they do any good.

The apology won't do him any good with the Arabs or the Stalinists in the Treason Party and the media, and I expect the President knows that. Where it will do him some good, though, is with the American public (outside of the wingnuts on the left and right fringes), who will now look at all further carping and crying by the fifth columnists as piling on, playing politics and generally failing to support the troops in contradiction to their pious bleatings to the contrary.

this is choir boy abuse in their world.

Another thing that will help the President overall. The jihadists can go back to cheerfully mangling the genitals of little girls with rusty tin can lids and buggering their little boys when the family goat's just not turning their crank any more and they get the urge to "jump some strange." It'll look just slightly hypocritical when our protests of these things draw nothing but raving demands that we "respect their culture."

The problems began prior to this thread.

I saw some of it yesterday.

BTW, best not to take on Howlin unless you want every bit of laundry repeated for all to see.

LOL! I have seen the results of those battles.

Not pretty:-)

It has been a very emotional couple of days. Actually, the entire month of April was horrible and now we have this mess.

Tempers are strained to the max.

I know that I have little control left. I think we should all rest up and take a break.

I agree with Petronski:

[Bush] said "I'm sorry for the humiliation they suffered..."

"That's not an acceptance of responsibility, that's an expression of regret."

Yes, we know those truths. But how many others do because of the media coverage?

Bush is on the razor's edge with this, he really is. If Rumsfeld goes, and much of the senior Pentagon management goes with him, Bush is hanging by a thread at that point.

"Are they going to apologize for hanging dead American body parts from wires and bridges?"

No. Nor will they ever prosecute the people who committed those atrocities.

And that's the difference between them and us.

I think it's okay for Bush to apologize. For one the Iraqi people likely aren't so stupid that they really think this was real torture --- and the prisoners themselves might actually prefer being handcuffed and photographed with women's panties on their heads than a slow excruciatingly painful real torture. For one Bush belonged to a fraternity and likely participated in somewhat similar, most likely lesser antics but even Bush might have a couple pictures out there that are a bit embarassing but weren't of physical torture. It's good Bush used the word "humiliation" which is what this stuff was.

howlin kinda has a cult of personality following here like william pitt on du. Kinda bizarre...

Especially since howlin makes lots of 2 sentence personal attack, content-free posts. Maybe that appeals to followers.

I can't help but wonder if all these lewd acts show that the devil is indeed alive in that jail. The sexual preoccupation of the humiliation of the prisoners makes me think of homosexuality and wonder if the soldiers in question are of that leaning. I cannot imagine anyone with a stable sexual orientation to even conceive of any of these acts. This is so sado-masochistic that it makes me wonder the sexual orientation of the perpetrating soldiers.

The perception is that GWB apologized.

Does it really matter?

That would be one Arab mis-perception that might have some effect on this story and help tamp out the flames.

I am sure that our Marines and Army volunteers will appreciate anything that can be done.

What he said and the way he said it, does not in any way infer weakness, as some wrongly suggest.

It was good international relations and necessary for the King of Jordon to hear.

Don't think so, but the early reports about some of these individuals do infer that they were not very good people to begin with.

I think that may well have been a factor in their sadistic imaginations.
