Not for nothing but I have seen white people speak the same way, and buy the expensive toys and they do not have a pot to piss in. Exp. the expensive clothes and the Mongoose Bike, I never heard of a Mongoose Bike but the dirt poor know all the good brands and they buy them for their kids and they live in apartments and collect welfare! Ok I'm done ranting for the day! Also, I have a co worker that does not have a pot to piss in and she walks around with a $500.00 ugly Louie Vitton bag. My god take the money and invest it!
I have a dictionary. Teaching kids to read, spell and write takes more than a dictionary. What I try and do is to get my daughter to visualize the word and it's meaning in a particular context. The goal is for her to retain the words and their meanings for future retrieval.
Having said that, I really appreciate the spellcheck function. There are many times when I can't remember how to spell the word that I need. Sucks getting old...
108-"I asked her to diagram the first sentence in her essay. Apparently suffering from a hangover, she failed to do it."
Perhaps she didn't know how to do this. Does anyone teach diagraming sentences today?
One of the most useful and memorable (and at the time frustrating) educational experiences I ever had was an excellent teacher in 9th grade English, who took 6 weeks, and devoted it exclusively to diagraming sentences. (By the end of his mini-course, we were able to understand and diagram poorly written (specifically for training) sentences which were in reality run-on sentence/paragraphs.
It has become so useful, all of my life. I would highly recommend that you, as a teacher, implement such a program for your students. It will stand all of them in excellent stead, and educate the uneducated and make those good students even better.
It comes in handy in understanding logic, lawyers, politicians, contracts, advertizing, warranties, insurance policies, liberals, many different things.
143 - Sorry - diagraming my own words, I made an error -
"One of the most useful and memorable (and at the time frustrating) educational experiences I ever had was an excellent teacher "
should have been:
"One of the most useful and memorable (and at the time frustrating) educational experiences I ever had was UNDER THE TUTELAGE OF AN excellent teacher "
145 - "Unfortunately this was a college science class."
So sorry. Really sorry. What are they doing taking 'science' in college? That's a 7-8th grade class.
Lol! I buy Car and Driver for my son, and hope he's reading the articles. I used to buy my now 21 yr old Metal Edge for the same reason.
Not just Jesse Lee Peterson. Also incredibly courageous people like Larry Elder, John McWhorter, Shelby Steele, Tom Sowell, Walter Williams.
He's still a member of the lunatic left!
All joking aside, you are correct. I took a "continuing education" course in beginning conversational Spanish in 2003. Plan on taking more. The time will come when it will be a prerequisite for some jobs to be able to converse in Espanol.
Thank you. I haven't been wrong since 1947 and that's nothing but the truth. ;)
