Quite a few FReepers have attacked John Kerry for visiting Reagan's coffin and paying his respects to the man. I think this is wrong.
If he hadn't paid his respects, the same people would be throwing a fit.
John Kerry did not wait in line: Neither did other dignitaries (aka "important people who are not celebrities"). Neither did Arnold Schwarzenegger. Do you think George W. Bush should wait in line? Please. That's pathetic. John Kerry is, by virtue of being the presidential candidate for a major political party, more important than the rest of us. Just like George W. Bush was more important than the rest of us while he was running for president in 2000. Get over it.
Kerry gave a "thumbs up" in his limo: someone cheered for him, so he responded with a thumbs up. It's a pretty sedate response. Get over it.
Kerry bragged about opposing Reagan's policies in the past: Well, yeah. John Kerry is a left-wing Democrat and Former President Reagan was a right-wing Republican. We live in a democracy and people are allowed to disagree about this sort of thing. Whether or not Kerry was right to disagree with Reagan (I don't think he was), we should still begrudge Kerry the right to disagree.
They held up the line for 30 minutes?
I can see why he might not make it back to D.C. for the arrival tomorrow night because of his daughter's graduation; he already had these two days scheduled for her, in between fund raisers and campaign stops.......before he canceled them.
So since his calendar is free the rest of the week, I can't imagine why he'd miss Friday. It's a National Day of Mourning.....heck, he's not even going to run commercials that day.
So, lay off those of us who are paying respects in whatever way we can, but dont expect any monumental changes in our opinions of Reagan's presidential decisions. They are two different issues altogether.
What do you mean?
You did not like RWR policies?
The video camera guy actually went into the room with the casket BEFORE Kerry did ......and turned around and waited for him to come into the room. That's where all that video on the nightly news came from.
Oh, my gosh! My reply was meant to another thread altogether.
Sorry!
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winnah!
Move to the head of the class, kabar!
LOL at the prancing!
And listen up,you political naif...George W. Bush is the president of the USA,he and his entire family knew President Reagan for many.many many years, and he has fashioned his presidency after Ronald Reagan's. Of course he's going to give the eulogy;who do you think would be a better choice,Slick Willie?
And you would be who?
Which we DO,little newbie. Perhaps you should read more and post less, until you learn the lay of the land around here.
He did! It was a vidoe camera guy.....he walked in first behind the people that were on the far side of the casket!
Im here exactly BECAUSE my ideology is different. Im new here, as Im new to blogging in general. I dont feel that Reagan's death should be used to shape the election one way or the other, whether to boost Bush or denigrate Kerry. There are pics of many citizens paying their respects to Reagan, Democrats and Republicans - Kerry and Schwarzeneggar are two well know people who the camaras are gonna snap for.
As far as paying respects personally, thats my own personal business. I work day in and day out as a hospice RN, so my respects are paid in my actions. Even if I have some disagreements with a patient OR ideological differences, my care is steady. Im not going to throw myself on the ground in tears, but Im certainly not going to take advantage of a bad situation to insult the "other side", like people on BOTH SIDES are now doing.
For what it's worth, I agree with you. Kerry was in a no-win situation. He also issued a very respectful statment about President Reagan and stopped his campaign for the week.
how will you feel when Kerry runs a political ad using Reagan's casket as a backdrop (with Kerry there, hand over his heart) as a voice says what a patriot Kerry is, what a war hero he is, how he's always supported the troops, and on and on? Will you think that's over the line? Just wondering bacause Kerry will do this, probably run it in Cal.
Great question -- LOL! Now she's gone to bed (per post #159) and Cyber Liberty's been banned. Not sure what that was all about but at least the thread is back on topic again.
A MOST excellent find, Tom!!!!
I'm sure the camera guy had not just happened to be standing in line with his FORBIDDEN camera. So he must have been in the little room with Kerry since he came out before Kerry, turned and took a picture of Kerry entering the room. That smells like premeditation to me.
Kerry and Schwarzeneggar are two well know people who the camaras are gonna snap for.
You have missed the entire point.
Governor Arnold and his wife were INVITED by Mrs. Reagan.
Kerry came on his own complete with his own cameraman.
It was crass and political. This viewing was for the
public at large, not for a photo-op by a man who will
say and do anything to be president.
BTW, Kerry didn't like RWR.
Are you catching on yet?
There's a screen cap from MSNBC on a large sized thread I was reading this afternoon. Unfortunately I can't remember the title of it now. The photographer was carrying a video camera, was on the right hand side of the screen cap above the MSNBC logo and only a third to a half of his body is shown. However, it's very apparent he's holding a video camera pointed at Kerry.
