CNNreporter describes it this way:

except for a few shouts of love to Nancy, it was incredible silence, solemnity, and respect from the crowd, as the casket was transferred to the caisson.

I flipped over to MSNBC for a sec....Mathews was talking to a famous JOhnson democrat about Johnson's funeral.....jeez!

I think it was Peter Jennings whose father told him to be quiet during moments like these with the words "let them hear the hoofbeats".

I cannot ***ing believe this. There is a break room with a TV with access to the news channels. I had it on FOX news for the procession and I left for a few minutes and someone eating lunch switched to CNN Healdines News. This guy must be a Reagan hater!!! I have to wait until the video is on the Fox news site.

There is a write up on the USTA(united states trotting assoc.) web site www.ustrotting .com about the riderless horse .

Sgt York is a 9 year old retired standardbred race horse, who is quite used to crowds and distractions. The horses pulling the caisson are warmblood crosses.

Yes many hours are put into training them. and the do several missions (Military weddings and funerals every year.

I remember we got the day off from school and I watched on TV -- also played this song in the band at Memorial Day in the small town in Ohio where I grew up.

I, too, would like the crowd to be silent ... and no band music ... just the drummer. I remember the Kennedy funeral in that chilling black and white TV as being very elegant. But then, everyone was grieving at a young president struck down. Different.
