NRA clout is outgunning Feinstein - Assault weapons ban renewal in doubt
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 06/28/04 | Edward Epstein

Washington -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein knows the odds are increasingly daunting as she tries to win congressional renewal of her 10-year-old assault weapons ban before it expires Sept. 13, and she warns that if the law lapses "you can expect the market to become flooded'' with such guns as AK-47s and Uzis.

The California Democrat will be home in San Francisco on Tuesday to join her colleague Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in marking the 11th anniversary week of the 101 California St. shootings that killed eight people and left six others wounded. The shootings helped persuade Congress to pass the assault weapons ban a decade ago. A frustrated Feinstein is looking toward November's elections to produce a president and a House leadership more supportive of gun control.

Feinswine is such a liar. You have never been able to buy full auto machine guns.

Besides, this ban never prevented the outlaws from getting their hands on a AK-47 anyways.

While I am glad that Feinstein is frustrated, I truly hope that November elections, just cement Republican control of the legislative process.

I find it interesting that Democrats as a party have realized that if they are honest about "gun control" they will loose too many votes in November and yet some like Feinstein say they hope to gain the Presidency, US Senate and House seats and then implement a "hidden gun control agenda."

It is my hope that the American public is smart enough to understand that Democrats "can't have it both ways."

Actually you can legally buy fully automatic weapons.

It just requires FBI background checks for a Class 3 license, plus $200 tax and local LEO sign-off per weapon, as well as the investment of mass quantities of $$$$ for the weapon itself, due to the '86 ban fixing the supply, but it can be done.

You most certainly can (well, perhaps not in Di Fi's fascist state -- I don't know Kali's laws on Class III firearms -- but most other states, yeah). Was a day you didn't even need to pay the stupid tax on it, either, and could get a new one. Now you can just get old ones if you've got the requisite piles of cash lying around. Oh, well. I can't afford the ammo anyway.

Especially since the import ban is unaffected.

As for a startup in the US cranking out Uzis, there is about as much chance of that as a domestic manufacturer rolling out a new line of 41AE. One can dream though...

Dodge City, blahblah blah, shootout over fenderbenders, blah blah blah, 13 children a day, blah blah, blah, the sky is falling, blah blah blah.

The Rats spew their tired old discredited propaganda and the media dutifully parrot it.

Ummm, sure you can.

Here is a picture of my daughter shooting one.

However, Feinswine is indeed a liar.

Yup, there is a LARGE "Full Auto" club right here in Miami, FL. Some of those guys bought suppressors, too. Same type of tax stamp and background checks as the weapon.

Dianne Feinstein on gun ownership, for Dianne Feinstein

"Because less than twenty years ago I was the target of a terrorist group...I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself because that's what I did. I was trained in firearms...I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me."
Senator Dianne Feinstein

"(W)hen the owner called in the checks, it seemed to me he spoke unnecessarily loudly, repeating and spelling my name over and over on the phone...Scott is not a convicted felon, and he is not prohibited from owning a gun...Scott Brady could walk into a store and buy a - he is not a prohibited purchaser

I'd add that the ugly gun ban never addressed automatic weapons because they're already regulated.

You are mistaken. You can buy one today. Just place the downpayment and fill out the forms, pay the $200 transfer tax, and wait for the approval (about 6 months). However, since 1986 the construction of new machine guns for civilians has been prohibited.

Machine guns have been outlawed since 1936. The AK-47 made notorious by Communist armies of the Cold War is not the AK-47 semi-automatic commonly used for deer hunting.

BTW, one could argue that "Just as a well regulated militia is necessary for the protection of a free state, the right of the people..." could be interpreted to mean that the citizens are entitled to carry the same weapons as the military. In fact, the point of protecting the right of the people to keep and bear arms is so that the populace cannot be harassed and and taken advantage of by a government army with superior firepower.

"Right is on our side. Public opinion is on our side. It's only the sheer power of the gun lobby that stands in the way,'' Feinstein said.

Correction: stupidity is on your side. DiFi just refuses to acknowledge that the gun lobby is comprised of PEOPLE (the PUBLIC) who care about their freedom, security and the Constitution?
