Nightline did a segment last week on the assault weapons ban with fully automatic weapons blazing in the background, nearly drowning out the voice of Ted Koppel (that wouldnt necessarily be a bad thing). Such weapons have nothing to do with the 1994 ban. In fact, they have been banned since 1934. That's not correct, but it might as well be. With the '84 restrictions on them, you have to be Bill Gates to afford one even if you wanted to jump through the NFA hoops.

All I know is that I'm starting to lose my voice from the near-constant explainations I'm dishing out to panicked people who blame me personally for endangering their lives with my support of the AWB sunset.
The misinformation being spewed forth by the media (including FOX), Kerry, and every other outlet with an agenda is criminal, IMHO.

For me, the surprise is Mike Adams' acting so naive. Maybe he thinks newscasters are a different class from the academics about whom he usually writes?

I'd like a nickel for every time these so-called experts, reporters, politicians and police chiefs use the term 'clips' to refer to 'magazines'.
In my mind, I tune out anyone using that term to discuss the AWB as unqualified to speak on the issue.

The Preamble to the Bill of Rights
[This is a note to me from Dr. Linda Thompson of the American Justice Federation that I am passing along to everyone...email me with your comments ken]
[to ken]
You left off the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the Bill of Rights -- the PREAMBLE which tells SPECIFICALLY that the Bill of Rights was to make sure the government knew it was limited to the powers stated in the Constitution and if it didn't, the amendments were rights of the people the government couldn't screw with.
Our revisionist historians ALWAYS leave this off the Constitution!!!
Here's a copy!!!
Effective December 15, 1791
Articles in addition to, and Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, proposed by Congress, and ratified by the Legislatures of the several States, pursuant to the fifth Article of the original Constitution.
PREAMBLE
The conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution.
The first ten amendments are "declaratory and restrictive clauses". This means they supersede all other parts of our Constitution and restrict the powers of our Constitution.
There are people in this country that do not want you to know that these two sentences ever existed. For many years these words were "omitted" from copies of our Constitution. Public and private colleges alike have based their whole interpretation of our Constitution on the fraudulent version of this text. Those corrupt individuals have claimed that the amendments can be changed by the will of the people. By this line of reasoning the amendments are open to interpretation. This is a clever deception. The Bill of Rights is separate from the other amendments. The Bill of Rights is a declaration of restrictions to the powers of our Constitution. The Bill of Rights restricts the Constitution. The Constitution restricts the powers of government. The deception is that the government can interpret the all of the amendments and the Constitution itself. Without the presence of the Preamble to the Bill of Rights this may be a valid argument.

Unfortunately, on September 13, Dennis Miller joined in with all the other misinformed media elites, saying that we need to keep machine guns in the hands of our soldiers, not in the hands of our citizens He needs to reread the second amendment. The right of the people to keep and bear military (IE. militia) arms is exactly what it protects. The courts have ruled in that in other places where the words "the people" are used in the Constitution, it means *more* than just citizens. It also includes other legal residents.

What is a good resource I can use to rebut those claims? The law itself. Title 18 section 922 contain most of the firearms law. Here's a link
922 (v)(1) It shall be unlawful for a person to manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon.
( The definitions are in section 921)
(30) The term ''semiautomatic assault weapon'' means -
(A) any of the firearms, or copies or duplicates of the firearms in any caliber, known as -
(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models);
(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;
(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);
(iv) Colt AR-15;
(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;
(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;
(vii) Steyr AUG;
(viii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and
(ix) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12;
(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of -
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
(iii) a bayonet mount;
(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel
designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and
(v) a grenade launcher;
(C) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of -
(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;
(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or
completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;
(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and
(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm; and
(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of -
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and
(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.
The law banned "semiautomatic assault weapons", not machine guns or fully automatic weapons of any kind. BATFE refers to them as SAWs. BATFE has a blurb on their page at www.atf.gov

UZI's Ak-47's are old stuff.
I'd love the P-90 that those folks use on Stargate SG-1 though that is 10+y.o. stuff.
If I could get my hands on stuff then I'd get the new Israeli Tavor rifle, its one very sweet piece I hear.
