Blogger Who Faulted CBS Documents Is Conservative Activist (L.A Times RATS out Buckhead!)
L.A Times ^

WASHINGTON — It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service — a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.

But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found.

The implication is that perhaps the memos were a "plant" by the RNC or Rove. To buy off on this silly notion, one must completely forget that CBS ignored their own experts and published the document over the expert warnings.

Occam's razor says that simple explanations are usually the correct one. Which is simpler: That the RNC or Rove based the entire gimmick on the idea that CBS would not vet the memo and run it no matter what anyone said, or that the note was handed to CBS by a partisan Hack who thought there would be no way anyone could discover the truth. Simple risk analysis makes it pretty plain that the cost to payoff ratio would be way too high given the dynamics of the race at that time.

The MSM just does not seem to get it...

It's great to see conservatives taking the gloves off and firing back. It was so dispiriting in past elections to see our side flail away and go meekly into the night. This election is proving to be different than in the past. It's usually the Dems who control the political debate and dominate the GOP. Now the shoe's on the other foot, and it's driving them absolutely nuts. I guess conservatives have finally learned how to play hardball in the game of presidential politics.

Gee...Buckhead waited for someone at DU or from the Kerry campaign to dig right in and prove those memos were frauds, but AMAZINGLY they just seemed to show no interest in doing it. [sheesh]

If the MSM spent as much time and effort into trying to figure out who forged the documents as they did in trying to figure out who it was the figured out that the documents were forged, they would have found the culprit last week. Instead they spend all this time and effort working out clues to Buckhead's identity.

Typical.

What I am amazed about is that the LAT absolutely sees no bias in their headline

Great point. How classic of LA Times to broadcast their liberalism with that headline...Nevermind cBS & memogate, let's talk about those conservatives.

From the article: Buckhead:

'"Freepers collectively possess more analytical horsepower than the entire news division at CBS," he wrote in an e-mail, using the slang term for users of the freerepublic site.'

Anyone realize that the LA Times just spent enormous manpower reading years worth of Buckhead's posts to determine if he's some sort of sinister Rovian(tm) plot, rather than investigate the legitimacy of the memos as a physical entity.
