CBS Statement On Bush Memos
CBS News ^ | 9/20/2004 | CBS News

(CBS) Below is the text of the CBS News statement on its use of documents purportedly written by President Bush's National Guard commander:

Bill Burkett, in a weekend interview with CBS News Anchor and Correspondent Dan Rather, has acknowledged that he provided the now-disputed documents used in the Sept. 8 "60 Minutes Wednesday" report on President Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard.

Burkett, a retired National Guard lieutenant colonel, also admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents’ origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source.

I just read on the FOX News website that Burkett says he gave the documents to Cleland.

Here's the link:

I am getting real tired of their identifying Burkett as National Guard when it should be ARMY NATIONAL GUARD.

The media is purposely trying to mislead the reader by only saying Air National Guard with Bush's service and National Guard with Burkett's -- they weren't the same.

Has anyone in the MSM tried to contact Max Cleland to get a statement regarding his involvement? I haven't heard - does anyone know?

Or did Cleland give them to Burkett ? A door is both an entrance and an exit.

CBS seems curiously uninterested in just who gave those documents to Burkett. Because they KNOW who is behind this and it would reflect badly on Kerry/DNC, imo.

Also, given that the Old Media demanded that the president apologize for using bad information in his State of the Union address regarding yellowcake uranium, which turned out to be the CORRECT information after all, shouldn't we demand that Rather apologize to the president?

Turnabout is fair play, after all.

Anyone remember when Cleland went down there to Texas at John Kerry's behest for that terrible, pitiful PR display at the front of the Crawford Compound?

Did Cleland have a little side visit/strategy session with Burkett in Texas at that time, too?

It's too late. The cat is out of the bag. Some will forgive & forget but for most people, CBS as a credible news source is a thing of the past (if it ever existed in the first place...)

This is a load of BS.

CBS WAS NOT THE VICTIM...THEY WERE THE PERPETRATOR!
CBS was not misled. They were told that the documents were fakes...BEFORE THEY AIRED THEIR HIT PIECE!

And the fact that BURKETT just up and says he misled CBS....shows that this "misled" crap is just a coordinated effort by CBS and Burkett to cover up for Kerry and the DNC.

Dan Rather's interview with Burkett was nothing more than a meeting so they could get their story straight.

So they're still not admitting the docs are forgeries - Burkett's taking a fall about lying re their provenance. Not good enough.

The NYT's had to clean house because a writer used bogus sources but never used forged documents. CBS not only uses bogus sources, it uses forged documents. Will CBS clean house ?

Absolutely, and we should boycott any company that gives their 40 pieces of silver to any C BS NOTNEWS program disguised as ad $'s. C BS NOTNEWS is an illegal 527 that works 24/7 to defeat GW and provides free Kerry ads disguised as news each day.

I would like to see AND hear an apology on the CBS Evening. We'll see if they print this story as much as they rammed the lie. I doubt it.

Wednesday, August 25th (one of the hottest days in the year). When former Senator Cleland visited Texas (Crawford).

Side trip? Side meetings? Cleland-Burkett?

WHY HASN'T ANYONE IN THE MSM TRIED TO GET A STATEMENT FROM MAX CLELAND REGARDING HIS INVOLVEMENT???????

It seems to me that this is the key link between the Kerry Campaign and these forged documents.

Hehehehe . . . It's someone on Kerry's new whizbang team.
